FRIDAY, APRIL 5, 1963 RECORD-EAGLE, TRAVERSE CITT, MICHIGAN Transit Bill Wins Approval in Senate iRomney Orders Limousine Sold WASHINGTON, April 5 (UPI)-A senate-approved bill to authorize federal subsidies for mass transportation systems for city commuters today reached the house where it faced tougher opposition. INSURANCE OF ALL KINDS BOB GUYOT As a concession to economy- minded Senators, the $500 million President Kennedy requested this purpose was trimmed to $375 million before the senate passed the bill, 52-41, yesterday. Voting for the bill were 46 Democrats and 6 Republicans. Opposed were 24 Republicans and 17 Democrats. Sen.

Harrison Williams, D- N.J., sponsor of the bill, called the vote "a strikingly significant victory for the administration." The house banking committee last week approved the $300 mil-1 lion authorization, but no house floor action is anticipated before late May or June. The bill has not yet been cleared by the house rules committee. Democratic backers were counting on the influence of eastern rail- roads to help provide a score or more of GOP votes they will need to pass the bill over opposition of a coalition of Republicans and conservative southern Democrats. The railroads in the urban areas of the northeast count on the proposed new program to help bail them out of red-ink operation on their unprofitable commuter lines. Inflation MIDDLETOWN, Apr.
