BIG in Martin County, Lee O. Cobb grew a 17-pound cantaloupe on his R. 3, Loogootee farm. According to Cobb, he may have some of the fruit still in his patch which is even larger. Cobb, 80, a former Martin County sheriff and auditor, has also had a good year raising tame blackberries.

He has sold a lot of the berries, which were on just three briars, in addition to having a large supply for family consumption. HONORED! Recently honored with his 50-year Masonic Gold Award was Roscoe Harshaw, who has been a Mason 50 years. He has also been a Methodist 50 years and a teacher nearly 50 years. The Masonic honor came to Mr. Harshaw July 23 at the Masonic Temple in Mitchell, with a pin presentation by Hurley Fletcher, a past master of the Mitchell lodge.

Another past master, Stanley Henderson, presented Mr. Harshaw with a Bible which was a gift from Harshaws wife, Ruth. A reception followed with 60 persons on hand. THIS PHOTO shows tho lime kilns at M. B.

Guthrie, local and historian, has collected, many of which will be included in his new history of Lawrence County, which is now being compiled. photographs businessman is referred to as a com- prehensive A-to-Z Iguide to the UFO phenomenon, including over 500 entries on worldwide sightings, photographs, abductions, ancient astronauts, ufologists, contactees, celebrity witnesses, organizations, publications, and government research.

Information on Owens, along with his photo, points out that he was born Feb. 20, 1920, in Bedford and currently resides at 200 N. E. 76th Street, Vancouver, Wash. 98665.

Known as the PK (psychokinesis) Man and the UFO Prophet, Owens has earned a reputation as one of America's leading psychics. The book explains that some of Owens best-known feats have been the predictions of the shooting of George Wallace and former President Nixon's resignation from office. Owens attributes his alleged powers to UFO occupants who, he claims, operated on his brain when he was a child. According to Owens account, the modification resulted in his being halfhuman and half-alien. However, it was not until a close encounter with a cigar-shaped UFO in 1965 that Owens became aware of his alleged ability to cause events to occur by the application of Used hearing aids collected by Lions psychokinesis to natures forces.

He reportedly used this power to control weather, influence football games, heal the sick and create blackouts, the book states. Owens claims to be in two-way contact with saucer intelligences. It is in this nianner, he states, that he can and arrange UFO sightings in specific areas during specific periods of time. One such sighting in 1973 was documented in an open letter by Max L. Fogel, director of science and education for Mensa, in which he concludes, example of the type of occurrence predicted in Mr.

Owens letter to me, written in advance of the occurrence, did take place. Owens believes flying saucer occupants are trying to save this planet by ending wars, killing, hatred, famine and unbalanced weather conditions. They are achieving this, he claims, by working through people on Earth. The beings themselves, Owens believes, are pure, invisible energy from another dimension. Owens served in the U.S.

Navy during World War II, and after the war attended Duke University in North Carolina. Subsequently, he was engaged in 50 different occupations, including lecturer, jazz drummer, magician, hypnotist, bodyguard, boxer, private investigator, office manager, fortune-teller, teacher of auto suggestion, instructor in knife throwing, jewelry designer, lifeguard, secretary, highspeed typist, bullwhip artist, judo expert, dance instructor, and rainmaker.
