Greetings! Having rid his system of this greeting. ths present writer will proceed on ths pleasant task of uncovering the secret places la ths Ufa history of Henry Peter Martin, standing guard on Coe colleges 1114 basketball quintet. Closet doors are to be ruthlessly thrown open and the skeletons concealed within dragged unceremoniously forth and paraded before tbs eyes of an Inquisitive public. For be It known that there are certain points and facts connected with the life history of this agile basket which are not common property.

They are not common property and never have been, but they are about to become just this and nothing less. For the benefit of s-arcbers for athletes among other colleges of Iowa and surrounding territory, the first fact to be divulged Is the source qf many of Coe beet basketeers. This source is none other than northern Illinois. It was this section of the sucker state I which was claimed by Paul White, the other guard, as his birthplace, in hla expose yesterday. And it is this section that also lays claim to Usury Peter, alias Hank the Hermit.

He was born, (listen closely, co-eds) April It, ISM. at Oak Park, Illinois. There be lived and thrived for some fourteen years, at the expiration of which time hla domicile was changed to Appleton, Wisconsin. It was at Appleton that Hank the Hermit (apologies to Earl Derr Diggers) first began to display signs of unusual ability as a basketball player. He was a member of the Appleton high school five that won the state championship of Wisconsin in 1112, and while aiding In this feat IL the IL acquitted himself with such splendor that he was given a position as ona of the all-Wisconsin high school for the season of 1911-12.

For a year after his graduation from the Appleton high school, which took place la 1112. Martin whiled away his time in gathering to himself Increased stature and a certain portion of filthy lucre. The former because he could not help It and the latter as a preparatory act to entering Coe college. As a freshman In Coe, Martin was a stellar performer on the yearling basketball five, he grabbed unto hlm-, self laurels as a freshman football player, he gathered In a varsity letter as a baseball player, became a full-fledged member. In good standing, of the Delta Phi Kpsilon fraternity, and plucked much fame as a chorus man In Just Georgia Ann.

In fact be Is reported to have threatened to knock the block off Martin. This he failed to do, however. And the sequel of the whole thing le that Henry Peter just naturally forgot to quit lovin that girl after the final performance of Just Georgia Ann and now claims her as his onllest own to ths great envy of Innumerable other young ladles at Corf. Martin ts studying to obtain a Bachelor of Arts degree at Coe and has as his fixed goal, a place of much distinction among the barristers of the United State. McFarlane, Waterloo. CHAMPIONSHIP MARKS. For Five Man Team. 5 i I i Today and Thursday Equitable Star (By Hamilton Johnson) Tha University of lows basketball players took the loos end of a St to II score traa the rejuyenated Cornell Quintet Tuesday nlfht at the Cornell gymnasium In a rough and tumble fight. Fast, active play, mixed with liberal quantities of aggressiveness made the game one crt more then 'passing lntrest.

The Flngermen led la 'aggreaslve tactics and as a result Moyer was ejected from the game by way of the personal foul route end Grigsby was given the gate by Referee Birch because he was alleged to have (used his Cats In a clinch with Dutton. the Iowa pivot man. Scintillating team work. In the ex erdse of which the plays went off with precision, was the big fae-' tor In the Iowa victory. Especially was this true In the first period when the extra weight of the Purple five was nullified because of the speed and dash of the Hawkeyea.

In the second period the waning strength of the Iowa team brought the total team ability closer to that of their opponenta. and the Plngermen rorced the battle. In the second period Cornell took the long end. 10 to I. The Cornell live gave evidence of Improved form from which they exhibited here three weeks ago in the game with Coe.

Hawk eyes Take Lead. The customary deadlock characterised the opening of hostilities but the Iowa forwards soon worked the bell down the floor on successive occasions for five points before Cornell had netted the balk Walker opened the scoring column for the Ut. Vernon troupe by netting a pretty field goal. For a few minutes the game was nip and tuck but the superior speed end team work of Kents mart had tha Purple completely at sea until the end of the half. The score et the end of the first period was 20 to (.

The Mt. Vernon five came back with renewed lght and strength In the opening of the second half and forced the going from the start. The superior strength of the Flngermen was used in this half with telling effect. Closer guarding was followed by Cornell In this period and the Iowa forwards were not able to slip away for free shots as was the case often In the first period. Forcing the mix caused the ejectment of Moyer, Cornells stocky guard In this period.

Hla exit was followed shortly by that of Grigsby, A llanson and Gethmaa who took the places of the two absent regulars played like Trojans and wers large factors In bolding the Iowa five even. Von Lackum Injured. Kenneth Von Lackum. the lows fight guard was removed from the fray as a result of a clash with Allanson, In which the smaller man was crushed to the floor. Kevin, succeeded Lackum and signalised hts entrance by hanging up a Rairnlcfc Was the only other Iowa man to make a field goal In the second period.

Butch Bannlck and the two Von LaAcum were the main strength of the Iowa team while for Cornell Moyer's aggressive play at guard was responsible for keeplrgf the score down. Byerly was at his best In floor work followed closely by Grigsby who held Dutton, the Iowa center, scoreless.
