Funded primarily through a grant awarded last September by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and other monies from the state of Utah and Tixiele County, the airfields runways are being resurfaced, repainted and improved. Jim Petersen, the airports general manager and president of the Historic Wendover Airfield restoration organization, said the enhancements will satisfy the FAAs safety requirements for taxiing larger military aircraft landings. The two main mnways rain grooves have also been resurfaced and taxi ways and staging areas are also being expanded.

Our airshow will be Sept. 20 and Introducing Rachel Adams. Letters Rachel Adams graduated from Nevada City California High in 1937, was a member of the Ambulance Corp. in Sacramento until the end of the war, married Ralston Adams in 1943, raised four children, Milton (shorty), Karen Johnson and twins Ronald and Donald, also cared for teenage foster children, lived on cattle and sheep ranches, Rachel and husband developed the Sunset Heights subdivision in Salmon, Idaho, and now resides at Cottage Glen. there are not a handful of foreclosures mentioned in its back pages.

The value ofTooele is being squaidered through inattention to our schcxils. If you are a homeowner, or a prospective homeowner you wait the class sizes in the Tixiele district reduced. You wait them reduced to less than the national average if possible. It is possible to, right now, reduce the target from 26 to 24. It is possible to reduce the target for next year to even less than tha.

It is reasonable to demand tha our elected sclxxil board provide a roadmap for reducing the class sizes in this district to at least the national average. Why not try for very low class sizes like those found in our neighboring state Wyoming? The fact is tha to greatly enhance the home values in Tixiele we only need to bea the Salt Lake area We can bea the Salt Lake areas schixil systems class sizes. We can do it now. We should start right away. Steve Parker Tooele ered adequate.

To put this into perspective 33 students allows a teacher to spend less than 1 1 minutes of time with each student each day. Is this reasonable? No of course it is not reasonable, but this is the situation in East ele-mentaiy. Each of the three 2nd grade classes at East elementary are stuffed with 33 kids. There is barely enough nxim to move around. What would this say to you if you were a prospective homebuyer? Nothing good I an sure.

Is this an unanticipated situation? Unfortunately it is not Last year the four 1st grade classes were a about 24 students each. Put these four classes into three, add a couple more for good measure, and you get the enormous classes we now have. This is not a situation that should each a competent school system by surprise. If you look in the back of this paper you will most likely find a handful of home foreclosures. Look again in the next edition of the paper aid you will see another handful.

Hardly an issue of the Tooele Transcript goes by where continued from page A5 If you are new to an area what can tell you if the schools will treat your child well? One of the greatest indicators used by prospective residents is class size (closely followed by test scores). The fact is that Tooeles class sizes are terrible. The school system attempts to staff teachers to keep classes at a ratio of 26 students per teacher. This is more than half again the national average (a little over 16) and 25 percent greater than the Utah average (a little over 2 1 the highest in the nation). To further complicate this seemingly simple metric the school system only allows these staffing levels to be calculated in aggregate so that significiuitly larger class sizes are possible.

What is a significantly huger class size? How does 33 students per class strike you. What prospective parent will get a warm a fuzzy feeling knowing that the schixil system is allowing classes of 33 2nd graders to be consid "When my husband died, my chrldren became concerned about my living alone.
