Names New Vice Presidents Activities of vital concern to students and citizens throughout Utah were placed under leadership of two new vice presidents at Utah State University by action of the Institutional Council. The council, meeting in connection with commencement at USU June 6, appointed Dr. J. Clark Ballard to be vice president for university extension and continuing education, and Dr. Claude J.

Burtenshaw to be vice president for student affairs. DR. BALLARD will head one of the three major missions or responsibilities of the university as vice president for extension and continuing education. He will be responsible for the cooperative extension service which has representatives in every county of Utah, for continuing education centers in the Uintah Basin and Southeasvern Utah, for extension classwork in communities all over the state and in neighboring areas of Idaho and Wyoming, for the conferences and institutes division which brings groups to campus from all over the Intermountain Area, and for other related programs, said President Glen L. Taggart.

The other two major arms of the university on-campus instruction and the research program. Dr. William H. Bennett now director of the USU Extension DR. BALLARD DR.

His elevation to vice president is "to emphasize the university's concern for the students and to maximize the students' participation in their educational experience," President Taggart said. Reporting to Vice President Burtenshaw will be the dean of women and the high school relations, orientation, foreign student, financial aids, counseling and testing, health center, university center, student activities, placement, housing and general registration functions. THE COUNCIL also approved the university administration's proposal to combine the College of Humanities and Arts with the College of Social Sciences. Dr. M.

Judd Harmon, dean of the College of Social Sciences since it was split off from the College of Business and Social Sciences in 1968, will be dean of the new combined college. Dr. Carlton Culmsee, dean of Humanities and Arts, retires June 30. Dr. Bruce H.

Anderson, campus coordinator for the Center for Integral Development of Land and Water Resources which USU leads in Latin America of for the Organization of American States, will succeed Dr. Ballard as director of international programs. Gilbert A. Long was named head of the Agricultural Education Department, to succeed Dr. Von H.

Jarrett September and W. Vosco Call was appointed acting head of the Theatre Arts Departmenv to serve while the department head, Floyd T. Morgan, is on sabbatical leave next year. Night School Sign-up Extended A schedule of six night school classes are now underway in Tooele, but it's not too late to register for the summer program. Subjects include religion, sociology, history, mathematics, speed reading and physical education, all under the direction of the Brigham Young University, Salt Lake Center, for Continuing Education.

Interested persons have through Friday evening to register for the class they are interested in according to Holger Tychsen, instructor. Those with questions about the courses are invited to call Mr. Tychsen at his home 882-4775. Tuition must be paid at the time of registration. If at first you do succeed, hide your astonishment.

and Mrs. Edgar Olof MeAlister of Tooele. Mr. and Mrs. D'Arcy R.

George of Salt Lake City are parents of the groom. Lynn Larsen of Bountiful served as maid of honor, and Hilary McAlister was bridesmaid for her sister. Wheels 'Set Up' Teens For Top 4-H Honors A set of wheels is the flying carpet of this teenage generation. It means freedom to travel, new places to go, less dependence on mom and dad for transportation. And equally important, having wheels supplies a certain status symbol, according to researchers.

For one special group of teens there is another much sought after status symbol: Involvement in the national automotive program and going on a trip to Chicago as a delegate to the National 4-H Congress. THE 4-H'ers who make the annual 4-H Congress scene are No. 1 in their respective states with their automotive projects. They are sponsored by The Firestone Tire and Rubber Company, and are its guests for the week-long event. Because they study traffic laws, correct driving practices, learn about the "workings" of a car, 4-H boys and girls are one-up on a lot of youths when they get their first set of wheels.

Many adults work with the and carried a nosegay of coral rosebuds, bachelor's buttons, and baby's breath. The bridesmaid's dress was of jade green silk shantung and her nosegay was of statice, forget-me-nots, and baby's breath. The mother of the bride wore a dress of pink silk shantung and a corsage of candy pink miniature carnations. The groom's mother was dressed in turquoise blue crepe and her corsage was of pale pink miniature carnations. FOLLOWING a wedding breakfast at Log Haven, the couple left on a wedding trip to San Francisco.

They will live in Salt Lake City. Mr. and Mrs. George entertained at a rehearsal dinner the evening before the wedding. Elks Sponsor Flag Day Service Six Cub Scouts from Tooele Pack 604 participated in a recent Flag Day program sponsored by the Tooele Elks Lodge.

Also taking part in the ceremony was vocalist Joye Pratt accompanied by Beverly Hall. Scouts include (L to R) Greg Lawless, Carl Voss, Danny Medina, Bobby Welsh, Bruce Mehalich, and Bobby Cummings. A NATIVE of Tooele, Miss Colbath attended Tooele High School for one year and then attended St. Mary's of the Wasatch i in Salt Lake City, graduating in 1959 with honors and a scholarship.

She attended Dunbarton University in Washington D.C. majoring in English and graduating with a Liberal Arts degree in 1960-61; She then attended the Law School of the University of Utah graduating in 1965. SHE WAS selected by the Tooele BPW as the career girl in 1967, in the national convention held in Park City, then represented Utah in the national convention in New York. and Mrs. Timothy J. Bentley of Richton, Mississippi. Chorus Rehearsal Kirk Is Scheduled said today the Tooele County Board of Equalization meeting has been scheduled for Friday, June 19 and will be held from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the County Commissioner's Chambers at the court house.

Rehearsal for the chorus of Faces West" is scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday evenings at 9 p.m. in the Fifth Eighth Ward Church. Applications Accepted for Maintenance Jobs The Federal Government has announced that applications are now being accepted for facilities maintenance positions, WG-5 through WG-8. Persons selected for these positions will perform work involved in maintenance and repair of structures, roads, grounds, bridges, and related facilities. Most positions are located in remote areas of the state at installations of the National Park Service, Forest Service, Bureau of Sport Fisheries and Wildlife, and Bureau of Land Management.

Boyd L. Nelson, Executive Officer of the Interagency Board, announced that applications for these positions will be accepted immediately under Announcement No. RS-0-14. He said that more information and the forms for applying can be obtained by contacting the Federal Job Information Center, Federal Building Annex, 135 South State Street, Salt Lake City, Utah 84111, or the Post Offices in: Beaver, Cedar City, Delta, Logan, Moab, Ogden, Panguitch, Price, Provo, Richfield, St. George, Salt Lake City, Tooele, and Vernal, Utah.

In making this announcement, Mr. Nelson said that applicants will be rated on the quality and extent of their appropriate experience. They will not be required to pass a written test.
