The Maitland family and state police say that if Brianna left voluntarily they would like to hear from her to know she is safe. On Tuesday the state police released a list of 11 state, federal and Canadian law enforcement agencies that have helped in their search for Brianna, including the FBI and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Before her disappearance, Brianna had been socializing with people involved in the use of illegal drugs, the news release said. If anyone has any factual information about the case they are asked to call state police in St Albans at (802) Sugarbush cancels major hotel deal WARREN, Vt.

(AP) The Sugarbush Resort is canceling plans to build a hotel at the base of Lincoln the company announced Tuesday. Resort officials said they couldn't secure enough financing" to pay for the construction of the Lodge at Lincoln Peak. "We are extremely disappointed by this turn of events," said Sugarbush President Bob Ackland. "We had hoped that the lodge would be an early project in our overall master plan, but our first commitment must be to continuing the needed improvements in the resort after years of neglect" Construction of the hotel was delayed when a potential lender withdrew their support at the last minute. Sugarbush officials have spent the last six weeks trying to decide what to do.

"Any delay the construction of the lodge or volatility in the construction-materials market would have added costs that would have required additional financing and created a tremendous amount of risk and exposure for Sugarbush as a whole," Ackland said. MSIC What's news today House approves drunken driving bill BOSTON (AP) Repeat drunk-, en drivers would be required to install a device in their cars to check the alcohol level of their breath before they could start their engines under a bill approved by House lawmakers. The bill would also extend the current one-year mandatory loss of license to 18 months, and bar repeat drunken drivers from obtaining a hardship license for at least a year. Drivers convicted of drunken driving multiple times can now obtain a hardship license after six months.

Repeat drunken drivers would also be required to have an assessment from the Department of Public Health to determine their level of addiction to alcohol or drugs. Critics said the bill goes too far and could cause repeat offenders to lose their jobs. "This has no deterrent effect, but can deter them from paying the mortgage on their houses," said Rep. James Pagan, D-Tauntoa "This measure stinks." Former Cape Cod doctor convicted on tax charges 'BOSTON (AP) A former Cape Cod doctor pleaded guilty on Tuesday to federal charges of failing to pay taxes on more than $800,000 in income during a three-year span. Kenneth E.

Smith, 59, an trician-gynecotogist who used to live in Barnstable but now lives in Hilton Head, C. pleaded guilty to three counts of failing to pay taxes in 1997, 1998 and 1999. Smith, the former owner of Hyannis OB-GYN Associates PC, did not file tax returns nor did he pay the taxes that were due in that three-year time frame, federal prosecutors said. Smith, who is scheduled to be sentenced on Oct 13, faces a maximum of one year on prison on NCUA each of the three counts. Construction reform package approved BOSTON (AP) House, lawmakers unanimously approved what supporters said was the first major overhaul of public construction laws in Massachusetts in more than two decades.

Backers said the proposal will help improve accountability and efficiency without sacrificing safety on a range of public building projects, including courthouses, roads, schools and bridges. The bill will give city and town officials more control and flexibility over projects while holding contractors accountable for their work, supporters said. The proposal is also designed to boost the number of women and minority-owned businesses working on public construction projects, both at the state and municipal level, 'and encourage more firms to compete for public projects. One reform would let public agencies hire the best general contractor, rather than the one with the lowest bid, and then assign all subcontracts based on the lowest bid. The bill now heads back to the Senate, which earlier approved a slightly different version of the bilL Police still looking for help with missing girl SAINT ALBANS, Vt The Vermont State Police are once again asking for the public's help in locating a 17-yearold Sheldon girt Brianna Maitland has been missing since March 17 when she left work in Montgomery.

"With each day that passes without a solid trace of iiiformation on her whereabouts it becomes more apparent that she may have been the victim of a violent crime," a state police news release said. hHtt FREE uimMiMRY 1 1 COiJaTTIS SHEEP FRttsn-up PLUSKIE FREE REMOVAL 1 1 iai anT et porctiase aaaa saaai sajaa saj mm mm mm mm ml Stiwiitwie Cmtwcuui iirWw.pittsneIrnItcrt.corn 2 IkowaStPrttsfielJU 499-1106 Mcr.dsy Friday 10-50, Set 13-5, Thurify 8 p.m..
