WrONWBAY, AUGUST 27, 1956. ItONWOOO DAILY GIOSE, IRONWOOD, MICH. IttlftTMN Industry Swing earlier than they were list year. It may be another six weeks or more before dealers display 1957 cars. the Auto Starts To'57 Models By DAVID J.

WILK1E DETROIT W--Close to half the industry has completed 1956 model production work. Lincoln already is building 1957 models. Most other makers outside the General Motors group are tooling tip for the changeover. But although the outgoing model ninout came somewhat earlier this year new model introductions apparently are not going to be any 'retdilers with respect to the liquidation of their outgoing modelf. Induitiy observers hear that General Motors will continue to That kind of spread between build 1956 models well into Sep- completion of year's model I tember.

Most GM along output and the marketing of new lines it not exactly normal in the cai mduitiy. But, the experts are saying, the program has been planned to make sure cf a thorough cleanup of outgoing models, and a clear road for intensive drives for 1957 model retail deliveries. Some 1957 models will be in transit to dealers weeks before the formal introduction date. Some industry analysts this may mean that a lot of 1957 models may appear on the streets even before their price tag; have been announced. This happened in other ears, bringing protests from some SCOTTY'S INN has been fortunate in obtaining the services of CHEF ZENTER Formerly with leading hotels in Chicago tuch as Palmer House, Hotel Sherman, Society Cafe, and one-time personal Chef to President Calvin Coolidge.

That means, of course, that they will be somewhat behind Lincoln, Ford and Mercury. There probab- will be no actual suspension of Ford's Continental assembly lines. Ford has adopted a policy of making changes in the Continental from time to time throughout the model year.

As far as has been indicated no major design changes are planned for the J10.000 Continental Mark II for the inauguration of the 1957 model year. So far this year Ford has built about 1,125 of these highest priced production models. Lincoln obviously Is aiming at a larger slice of the top price car market. How much it can take from Cadillac, if any, still is a debatable question The registration figures showing a gain for Lincoln and a loss for Cadillac as compared with 1955 probably are not as significant as they appear at first glance. Lincoln's showing in first half of 1955 was undoubtedly somewhat below what it should have been in the industry's record-splintering sales year.
