Guests at the meeting were Claire Gliwski, daughter of Grace Denno, Mary Leja and Stephanie Leja. Roma Sacco woq the Lucky Senior prize. Other prizes went to Margaret Dubois, Francis Belisle, Alfred Roma Sacco, Jean Pinson-neault, Anna Tallarico, Jean Szplla, Clara Belleau, Gladys Alibozek, Walter Papiez, Esther Wisniowski, Donald Bourdon and Mary Mllos.

Bingo was played after both meetings. Vicky Erdeski, Jessie Kordana, Jeannette Bourdon, Margaret Dubois, Helen Duprey, Stanley Sllwa, Donald Bourdon, Phyllis Blazejewski, Gladys Dilk, Lorraine Slrois, Jean Harrington, Muriel Phelps, Delia Lanier, Wilfred Lilly and Joseph Millette. Refreshments were served in recognition of members with birthdays and anniversaries during the month of May. At the meeting May 18, the members observed a moment of silence in memory of Helen Milisiewski; who died May 11, and Albina Beaublen, who died May 13. 7 -'-v Barmolini wins photo contest NOBTH ADAMS On Wednesday, March 8, The Transcript published a photo of workers in Sprague's Industrial Oil Paper Rolling Department at Brown Street, taken sometime in the mid-1950's.

The photo was run as a contest sponsored by Shifting Gears, the labor history project that operates locally from Western Gateway Heritage State Park and is researching the history of Sprague and its Marshall Street plant. The object of the contest was to name the 25 people in the photo. Of all the those who responded, most were former Sprague employees and several were actually in the photo. While there is still some controversy as to the Identity of several individuals in the photo, Shifting Gears judged Rena Barmolini the contest winner, and her answer bore the earliest post mark. contest prize was a $100 gift certificate donated to Shifting Gears from the Outlet for Toys and Parties on Route 2 in North Adams.

Shifting Gears is a project administered by the Massachusetts foundation for the Humanities and P.ublic in cooperation with (f he Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Environmental Management. lll WINNING. NORTH ADAMS Barbara Gail Heggie of 323 Main Penn Yan, N.Y., was awarded the degree of juris doctor by the Duke University School of Law during graduation exercises on May 14. The daughter of Robert and Engelke Heggie of Penn Yan and granddaughter of Mrs. George Ballard of Pittsfield, Heggie is a 1985 magna cum laude graduate of Bryn Mawr College, where she majored in psychology, and a 1981 graduate of Penn Yan She is a native of North Adams, where she attended elementary school. While at Duke, Heggie served as co-president, vice-president, and the secretary of the Women's Law Society, student representative on the Admissions Committee, board member for Student Funded Fellowship, and secretary for the Forum for Legal Alternatives. A paper she wrote, this past year, "Alimony Reform for North Carolina," will appear in the summer issue of the North Carolina Central University Law Journal.

Heggie had been the Law School Merit Scholarship on entering Duke and received the North Carolina Interest on Lawyers' Trust Accounts Pro Bono Fellowship for public interest work during her third year. July 20 was tentatively selected as the date for a trip to the Coach-Lite Theatre, featuring the performance of "They're Playing Our Song" by Neil Simon. Reservations are being accepted for a trip to the White Mountains in New Hampshire Oct. 15.

Esther Wisniowski won the Lucky Senior prize. Other prizes went to of Weidman Jordan in Rochester, N.Y. During her last two years at Duke, Heggie was a Helpline counselor for the Durham Coalition for Battered Women, volunteered for the Caswell. County Women's Shelter, interned at the North Carolina Center for Laws affecting Women, and worked as a research assistant for Katherine Bartlett, Family Law professor at Duke. Heggie is currently working for Legal Assistance of the Finger Lakes, Geneva, N.Y.

This fall she will begin a one-year clerkship with Justice William Johnson of the New Hampshire Supreme Court, in Concord, N.H. baby chicks the students -visited the Douglas Burnett Jr. farm in Adams, where they were able to see piglets, calves' andalamb. She graduated in 1979 from Hoosac Valley High School, Cheshire and received her B.S. degree in biology in 1983 from Gerogetown University, Washington, D.C. Prior to entering medical school in 1985, she was employed as a research technician at the University of Pennsylvania.
