Named officer of Parents Assn. To install Iowa State Phi Beta Kappa Chapter Formal installation ceremonies for philosophy at Grinnell College and a newly elected Phi Beta Kappa senator, will be the installing officer. W. Iowa State follows the University of California at Davis and Michigan State, chartered in 1968, and Purdue University in 1971. Any member of Phi Beta Kappa and spouse or friends may attend the installation and dinner. Tickets must be purchased by Dec. 15 and may be obtained through Keith Huntress, 241 Ross Hall. the new chapter of Phi Beta Kappa at Iowa State University will be held Dec.

19, in the Campanile Room of Memorial Union. A dinner for 86 charter members of the chapter will be held at 6:30 p.m., with the installation program slated for 7: 15 p.m. The University received its chapter grant for the national honor society in August. The chapter; the sixth in Iowa, will be called Zeta. Neil Klausner, professor of emeritus of the University, will become foundation members of the chapter.

Officers of the new chapter include Chalmer J. Roy, president; Robert S. Hansen, vice president; Hester Fassel, secretary; Joseph Marks, treasurer and Edward S. Allen, historian. A resident of Ames, Margaret McGilliard, 103 Hunziker has been named secretary treasurer of the newly organized Parents' Assn.

Their son, Lance, is a sophomore at Iowa State. The ISU Parents' an affiliate of the ISU Alumni has been organized to provide communications between the University and parents of ISU students.

Kohoutek gives off fir si signals WASHINGTON (UPI) Radio signals have been picked up from the comet Kohoutek, indicating it contains a gas previously observed in a region of the galaxy where astronomers believe stars may be forming. The space agency's comet operations center said Tuesday the natural radio emissions were detected by Drs. Bobby Ulich and Edward Conklin using the radiotelescope at Kitt Peak, Ariz. NASA said this appears to be the first strong evidence of radio noise from any comet. Ulich and Conklin said the radiation was produced by complex molecules of methyl cyanide, a gas previously observed deep in the Milky Way galaxy.
