7 57. 9:28, 10:22, 11:06 p.m. (I.tar CompaQnie Generale Traosatlantiqufl Every inflicatlon now points to Princeton University winning the championship ot the Intercollegiate Hockey League. Last night the Tigers easily defeated Columbia University, their most formidable rivals and took the lead in the race for the championship. The score was 6 goals to 2, with the first period ending 20 In favor of the victorious seven.

At no period in the game was Columbia really dangerous. The most interesting feature ot the contest was the Improvement in play shown by both teams over college hockey of a half dozen years ago. In former days the college boys played a game that hardly was Bhinny. The games were nothing but rough-and-tumble contests, with the players hardly able to skate. In the contest last night there were several men who would make vaiuabie additions to any amateur hockey seven.

Baker of Princeton easily was the star of the lot, and It was a pleasure to watch him at work. Baker has more speed than any other man playing hockey on a college team today He still lacks finish in the handling of the puck and his shooting is a bit wild. Both faults will be overcome in time, and before he gives up game, Baker Bhould become the greatest hockey player ever developed at an American college. Columbia has no Individual man who was half as good as Baker. In fact, the Blue and White men lacked the flnis'i noud In the work of the Tigers.

However, it must be remembered that for years Columbia has been a joke upon the ice, so the fact that the Mornlngsldo Heights boys are in second instead of last place is a good indication that the playing has improved at the Blue and White institution. Charges Are Not Sustained Against George Harmon. George Harmon, Wanderer Hockey dlub successfully proved that there was no foundation to the charges of professionalism that have been In circulation about him, to the satisfaction of tho executive committee of the Amateur Hockey League last night. Harmon had keen paid $10 for refereeing a schoolboy hockey game. Harmon showed, however, that the money was In order, as he Vad come on from Boston to referee the game.

The charges were therefore dropped. Hockey Club Will Play the New York Athletic Club Tonight. There will be a championship game between the Hockey Club of New York and the New York Athletic Club tonight. The Winged Foot players should nave no difficulty in winning, still the game is expected to be a close and an interesting struggle. TO RELIEVE QUEENS OWNERS.

President Maurice K. Connolly of Queens, when asked this morning as to what measures he proposed to take for tho relief of the property owners of Queens, now alleging that they are being overburdened with assessments, said: "I propose to introduce in this Legislature a bill for the relief of all rapidly built up sections where assessments for street openings and wldenings, regulating, grading, paving and curbing and building sewers, coming In nearly together, would almost entirely consume the property. Because of the fact that these improvements benefit not only the present owners of these properties, but will also benefit the owners of the same property five, ten or fifteen years hence, we feel that the future owners should bear their share of those assessments. "A bill Is being prepared providing that theso assessments shall bo paid after fifteen years In such a way that each subsequent annual installment becomes a Hen upon the property as soon as It is due. "A bill of that kind was passed last yeur.

but was disapproved by the Mayor, lor the reason that, as ho stated, the bill was compulsory in Its terms, whereas, as lie contended, It should have been optional with the Board of Estimate. We hall seek to remedy that defect In this bill. "Amendments will also be offered to 1ho so-called Miller bill, with respect to the repavement of highways. This bill is tho measure that has held up Indefinitely our improvements on highways, and Involved us in endless litigation." JAPS TACKLE U. S.
