Muscatine county Democrats who are contemplating attending the democratic national contention at Denver, Col, July 7, will be enabled tp make exceedingly good) train connections according to a bulletin with the train time table thai has been received at the union depot. The train will be- known as the Iowa Democrats' Special, and will leave the Rock Island depot at Davenport, on July 5, at 6: 30 a. passing through Wilton at 6: 40, and West Liberty, at 7 o'clock, where-a number of, people will board it and after reaching Des Moines, wrhere It will remain for about an hour, the train will proceed to Lincoln, where tie delegates and their friends will enabled to meet the Hon. C. Hagerman was elected chief of the Muscatine fire department, Otto Elfers first assistant, and Frank Curry second assistant, at the meet ing of the firemen held last night at tne city ball. There was a good crowd in attendance despite the fact that it was almost settled who the successful candidates would be sev eral days, ago. The meeting was called to prder by Chief Deutschman and George Behres was- elected chairman, with Eugene Horst as secretary. It was moved that the first ballot be made informal, which was carried.

The informal vote' for chief resulted in Hagerman receiving 85 votes out of a total of 9 bast, and the, rules were suspended. IMr. Hagerman being chosen to the jof flee by acclamation. Out of a total vote of 121 for first assistant chief. Otto Elfers received, 9 5.
