near having a new Southern Pacific depot yesterday The lepot would probably have been a new-modern building with modern con-aeniences suitable to a city the size of Modesto But there was only one thing that prevented this much hoped for occurrence it all depended on the little word the fire had happened at night instead of in the afternoon the unexpected might have happened we might have had a now depot But as it is our grandchildren are fated to use the same old depot in the same old place And that isn't all Probably by the time the company gets ready to build a new depot public opinon will prevent it You see bv that time the old depot will have become a landmark a sacred heritage of the dead past good enough for our progenitors t'ls good enough for Yesterday afternoon ono of the trunks in the baggage room caught fire The trunk was dragged out side broken open and the fire put out The extent of the damage was the loss of a pair of sadly scorched about the seat The fire was caused by the ignition of sulphur matches in the pockets the fire had happened at night the old depot would have probably been destroyed and wc would have Cleanest Cheapest And BEST FUEL Mr and Mrs
