The locality adjoins. Freeport, and is situated very near to the depot, close to the Great South Bay, bnt is, withal, high, dry and level. Sir. Signiohd offers exceptionally attractive inducements to the people of New York and It is pointed out that the suburbs of Brooklyn, Queeas and the Bronx will, in the course of a comparatively few years, become congested. The more lasting' suburban district, therefore, is outside of the Greater Citys limits.

The feature about the conventional method of buying a home In the citys suburban districts is generally. made attractive to the home-seeker, but is more fruitful to the land-speculator who sella the property, snd in many cases, has it returned to him for one reason or'another. The ttfces, too, nre a consideration, while water-rents and otifer expenses attached to suburbanite! who live close to the city afford uopleaa ant condition. In Bellmore, however; none of thesu things are worth mentioning. Tho taxes will be lower and the want rents and other essentials much less in proportion.

The place will be In no danger of becoming congested in a number of life-times, snd ta secure a home there meaas but the expenditure of only what tho home-seeker no is paying no more, For instance, a lot measuring 25 by 150 feet, can be bought at Crescent Lake for ns little as $19. The taxes On a $19 lot would not amount to any figure worth noticing. Then, if desired, Mr. Sigmand would build the home-aeeker a home. There are lota at other prices ranging upward, and they may be had at the rata of $2 paid down and $1 per month.

It needs no facile pencil to paint a word-picture of the advantages to be thus easily gained, almost without effort. One fritters away much more. than the amount required, and the loss isnt noticed. In a few years, many a family now living in the clone nnd unhealthy confines of the city can be the absolute owners of a homo. Crescent Lawn offers splemijj facilities or boating, bathing and fishing.

The Great Bay, with Its well-know fishing grounds, is almost at the portals of the doors. Mr. Sigmond operate special excursion trains to the Crescent Lawn section every Wednesday, 'Saturday and Sunday, transportation being free on application at th office No. 171 Broadway, corner of Cortlandt street, Manhattan, where particulars of the section described will be given freely, and questions regarding and the prices of houses snd rates of paymeat will be gladly answered. tnet.

There are six classrooms in McCaddin Hall, on Bery street; twentj-foui in the new public school No. 143, at North Sixth and Havemeyer streets, and ten classrooms in the old school at South Tiird street and Driggs avenue. Of the total number of pupiTs, 202 were enrolled on the last day in June and 52 to-day. In the grammar and intermediate schools in tbs Eastern District all the principals were kept busy to-day enrolling children. While at breakfast this morning, a piece of meat stuck in bis throat ad be died before the arrival of a physician. vague way the acceptance of a baptismal certificate had some sort of religious con ncction. This is too absurd to seed answer'. The baptismal certificate is of in tcrest to the school authorities solely as documentary proof of the child's age, and its acceptance is merely for the convenience of parents who have this record, but not a ceitifieate of birth. If parents would consider the question without prejudice they would see in this regulation provisions that safeguard their own interest by preventing many seats in tbe schools which are required for older children from being filled by children below the school age.

For many years before these requirements were adhered to strictly, it was a mattr of common knowledge that many parents who wished to be relieved of the care of their young childreo during tbe day would assert that children three or four years of age were six or aeven years old. The effect of this was to put into classrooms children entirely too young to follow the with benefit, and who were consequently a detriment to tbe other pupils of norma age. Tb6y were a nuisance to the teacher inasmuch as they required a nurse rather than an instructor. To permit such children to fill seat needed for pupils of full school age ia to allow a serious injustice to tbe older children. In order that children who evidently are of school age, but whose parents cannot supply documentary proof of the fact, 1 have issued instructions to principals to tdmit children who, in their judgment, are of six years of age, sod to require presentation of proof at a later date.

This will enable parent whose children were born elsewhere to secure record. The Urgent new school opened to-day was No. 143, at Howard avenue and Trospect place. It ha fifty rooms aad CRESCENT LAWN HOMES. COLD STORAGE PLANT BURNED.

Mayor McClellan manifested a great deal of interest this morning in the opening of tbe schools. Tbe Mayor was asked if he did not think that the present statutes governing the building 'of sebooihouses caused a delay that permitted tbe part-time classes to multiply.
