HELD IN CARDINAL'S FUNERALS ROME, March 3 (U services, for the late Cardinal, Merry Del whose Val, Roman Catholic name was perhaps better known than any other member of the Sacred College during his life, were held to-day in St. Peter's. The funeral mass began at 10:30 A. in a scene impressive for its somber grandeur, and in the presence every Cardinal and high churchman now in Rome. FLUSHING LAWYER DIES IN FLORIDA George N.

Webster, 60, for a quarter of a century a resident of Flushing, died on his houseboat at Palm Beach, according to a telegram received by his family at 20 South Parsons boulevard, Flushing. Mr. Webster had been ill three member days. and of died Friday. He was a the law firm of Cummings and Webster, in Manhattan.

Death was caused by pneumonia. Surviving are his wife, a daughter, Betty, and a brother, Evan Webster, a lawyer, of Hollis. Mr. Webster was commodore of the Shelter Island Yacht Club. He had to Florida early in January to gone spend his winter vacation, as had been his custom for many years.

HASLAM FUNERAL THIS AFTERNOON The funeral of Thomas W. Haslam, brother of former Alderman Edward J. Hasim, was held this afternoon from the Funeral Home, 187 South Oxford street. Mr. Haslam died on Friday.

He was 56 and WAS born in Manhattan. Burial WAS in Evergreen Cemetery. For many years Mr. Haslam was associated with his father, the late William Haslam, in the trucking business. SERVICES ARE HELD FOR HERMAN BERMAN Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon for Herman Berman, at 187 South Oxford street.

He died in a Boston hospital following an operation for an eye ailment last Thursday, cemetement was at Mount Lebanon Mr. Berman was in the knit goods business and had been a member of City Lodge, F. and A. and Brooklyn Lodge, 22, B. P.

O. Elks. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Feldman Bermen; a son, Melville; his mother, Mrs. Fannie a sister, Mrs.

Ida Silverberg, and three brothers, William, Archie and Irving Berman. PURVIS FUNERAL SERVICE TO-NIGHT Funeral services will be held at 8 o'clock to-night for Thomas Purvis, who died at his home, 518 Madison street, Friday. LAWS WIN SUP PORT OF MINISTERS Step in Right Direction, Opinion After Visit to Lineup Representative ministers of Queens and Manhattan enthusiastically supported the Baumes Laws to-day after they had visited police headquarters in Manhattan, to view the lineup of prisoners arrested within the past twenty-four hours and 1 made a tour of the headquarters building and the Police College adjoining. The delegation was the first section of the New York Advertising Club's first division, comprising thirty clergymen in all. Four women were in the group. The Rev.

Dr. Christian Reisner, of the Broadway Tabernacle, Manhattan, headed the section and the Rev. Dr. J. Earl Edwards, pastor Queens Village Baptist Church, was spokesman.

Their guide was Inspector Joseph Donovan, head of the Bureau of Criminal Identification. Dr. Edwards said it was the consensus of the ministers that the Baumes laws we.e a step in the right direction in suppressing crime and that it should not be amended. He referred to some of the prisoners the ministers saw in the lineup and declared that most of them had been given opportuni'tes to reform and lead better lives, but had failed, as their records proved. Asked if the ministers believed that non-employment has anything to do with crime, Dr.

KIP SENDS ALICE OFFER TO SETTLE Her Lawyer Refuses to Go to Chicago William D. Cunningham, trial counsel for Alice Jones Rhinelander, negro wife of Leonard Kip Rhinelander, announced at White Plains to-day the receipt of a telegram from Harley Harmon, lawyer, of Las Vegas, asking Cunningham to go to Chicago to negotiate a settlement of the financial dispute between Alice and Kip. Cunningham said he would not go and declared the suggestion to be ridiculous. He said that a month ago, in a letter to Alice's lawyers, Harmon asserted that Kip had practically no income, but would give Alice a third of it if she would give up the name of Rhinelander.

He declared to-day he knew Kip's income was more than $10,000 a year. UNION STREET MAN HELD FOR ASSAULT Because he has been indicted by the Grand Jury and held in bail of $25,000 on charges assault and robbery, the case of Fiore Orlands, 25, of 477 Union street, was dismissed in Fifth avenue court to-day by Magistrate Walsh. Orlands was arrested after a chase in which shots were fired by two patrolmen, who charge they saw him and a companion hold up and rob 8 couple seated in a sedan in front of 613 Forty-eighth street on February 22. Another prisoner, arrested in bed at his home the next day, suffer-. ing from a bullet wound in his left leg, Enrico Malino, 19, of 7608 Seventeenth avenue, is to be taken to court for a hearing when his wound heals.

JOSEPH S. SHORT, son of the late Police Capt. Martin Short and Catherine Collins Short, died Saturday. He was a member of the Seawanhaka Democratic Club of the First Assembly District and the Attendants Interborough Council, 12, of the Civil Service Forum. He is survived by five brothers, Dennis Martin Dr.

Francis J. Short, of Jersey City, N. James and John, and three sisters, Mary Carey, Mrs. Daniel S. Scott and Mrs.

J. JOSEPH DE LUCIA died Saturday at his home, 615 DeKalb avenue. He was fifty-six years old, born in Italy and lived in Brooklyn thirty-flve years. He was a bootblack. He is survived by his widow, Mary, and nine brothers, fifteen nieces and ten nephews.

Lucy. Interment will be at St. John's Cemetery HEART ATTACK ENDS HIS LIFE John G. Harrington, Old Brooklynite, Dies After Excitement Awakened early yesterday by knocking and kicking on the door of his home, John G. Harrington, of 1108 Beverly road, went down stairs to investigate, but before he reached the door he dropped dead of heatr disease, caused by excitement.

Mr. Harrington was a well-known resident of the Flatbush section. having lived in the same house for the last thirty years. He was born in Brooklyn and lived here all his life. For the last thirty years he was by the New York Central Railroad AS charter master in charge of the marine division.
