Meet your friends at Gaylord's today and have a box of Talcum powder Ftee, Free. 2 Brains are Built from certain kinds of FOOD Grape-Nuts Furnish It IIoy to 3Iake Nervous People.

''AmeHca has become a land of! nervous emotionalists, largely owing to our Bins against the dietetic health, laws of nature. 'i Only outdoor exercise In a cold climate would enable vigorous individuals of our species to digest yiands forced upon alimentary organs enfeebled by sedentary occupations," writes Dr. Felix Oswald. Brain workers must have different food Jhan day laborers, because brain work" uses up parts of the brain and nerve centres, while physical labor uses up other parts of the body. A food for brain workers has been pared by scientific food makers and called GrapeNuts.

It is a pure, natural food made from selected parts of field grains known to coritain the natural phosphate of potash and other elements used by the system in re- building and repairing the brain and nerve centres. This food Is skillfully cooked at the factory and is ready to be served Instantly either cold with cream, or as a hot breakfast dish! with hot milk or cream poured over it. N. Collars Parasols Ito More Can be Taken at the County Vorkhouse No Trouble About Taking Care of the Men Sentenced to th County Roads. From Now on the Women Will be Sent to Jail as the Iiaw Ioes Xot Allow. Them to be. Sent' to th Roads.

Entire Police Force on the Lookout for Vagrants. Superintendent of the county home and workhouse I Montgomery sent word to the city authorities yesterday that no more people need be sentenced to his institution as rooms; were occupied and no more guests would be received. -Not a day passes now but several vagrants are arrested and given, terms either on the roads or in the workhouse. The law is such that women cannot be sent to the county roads and df they cannot be taken in at the workhouse the old plan xf sending them to jail will have to be resorted to, but laying up in jail and getting plenty to eat is not much of a punishment for a lazy negro. There is no trouble abou taking care of the men and the officers are on the alert for all negroes who are not at work.

During the summer months ds an excellent time to build roads and if the negroes will not work for money they will have to serve their county free. If it were possible for the poiice to get hold of all the negroes who are vagrants the jails, cells at the city hall and county workhouse would not hold the women and additional guards would have to be employed to guard the men on the roads. But it is a most diffi-J cult task to get hold of all the vagrants. Many of them are as artful in dodging the law as the big trusts. Prior to the last legislature women were not indicted for vagrancy, but the law is now such that they can be gathered in as easily as men and it is indeed well that it is so.

Mayor Waddell had two vagrants before him yesterday, Lizzie Roberson and Carrie Brown, both colored. Each woman got thirty days in the workhouse. This rounds the number of vagrants up to twenty-eight. Chief Williams is determined to get rid of the negroes that have been, breaking into houses in different localities and stealing principally provisions. He is positive that it is the negroes who are not at work that have been committing these robberies, so he has decided to send just as many vagrants as possi ble to the county roads.

The Laurinburg baseball team passed through the city yesterday en route home from a several days stay at Fort Caswell, where they plaed two games with the soldiers. The score was 3 toO. and 6 to 4, both games being in favor of the soldiers. A negro by the name of George Lewis, who is believed to be insane, was taken in custody yesterday and is now, confined at tile city hall and will probably be examined today.

He'is not at all violent, but had been acting in a peculiar manner. Mr. and Mrs. Jesse have the sympathy of many friends in the loss of their infant daughter, Esther May Farrow, who passed' away esterday morning at 5:30. Funeral will take place this morning at 10 o'clock from the residence at Sixth and Queen streets, with interment in Bellevus cemetery.

Walter Chambley, colored, was ai- rested yesterday on the charge of mak ing an assault with a deadly weapon upon Alice Adams. The alleged offense was committed several months ago, but-Chambley left "the city and only came back a few days ago. He will be given a preliminary trial before Justice Bornemann today at .12 o'clock. The firemen have formed a relief association to be know as the Firemen's Relief Association of Wilmington. It will be run on the assessment olan and each fireman will pay into the association the sum of 25 cents each week.

Oak Ridge Institute is again before the" public a strictly non-denomination school to the-, gratification of its more than six thousand alumni in this state. There was at one time a deal on, by which it was to he converted into a denominational college, but there has been a hitch In the negotiations, and the Messrs.

Hplt have decided to continue the school as heretofore, by which it has- been built up through thirty-one years under their management into one of the best fit- ting schools in the south. It had 286 boarding pupils last year. The terms are reasonable. See advertisement elsewhere dn this paper. Her Gift Her Boy.
