To Cost $500,000 Expansion of its South Side slant to include facilities for abrirating glass-lined a icaters will cost Rheem Manu- acturing 7600 S. Kedzie ve. nearly $500,000 according to William S. Rheem II, general manager. "This development a Sheem the only company in the field with three locations manufacturing glass-lined water heaters ready for use," he stated.

"In these heaters, glass is used as a protective lining against the corrosive action of minerals on outer casing, making a fin- heater at less cost than when copper is used." Equipment lor making fibre containers also has been installed at the Chicago plant. This retaliation includes a storage balcony for storage of finished containers for immediate delivery. "Completion of the fibre drum facilities makes it possible for a customer to fill most of his packaging needs from one sup- slier," Mr. Rheems said. "The company now makes steel and re drums as well as combina- ions of steel and fibre Expansion of the Chicago slant in 195S includes installa- of complete modern facilities for applying inner linings to ted containers, Mr.

Rheem stated. Such facilities are also eing installed at four other Rheem plants, at an approximate cost of $150,000 each. Sales for 1954 at the Chicago plant are running about 10 per cent over last year and a gain of about 22 per cent over 1952, according to Vearle J. Heinis, general sales manager. "We expect a volume in the Chicago plant of more than $26,500,000 for 1955 which will be a gain of six per cent over this year, he stated.

The company recently moved its research and development facilities for contained linings to the Chicago plant. It was felt, Mr. Rheems stated, that a central location lor such facilities would better serve the various Rheem plants located throughout the United States. "At the same time," he said, "it would enable Rheem to work more closely with users of containers in developing special linings and processes to hold many critical products heretofore a major problem in packaging."
