SOUTHTOWN ECONOMIST Girl Scouts End Season With Whirl Jody Rowan Economist SUff Writer It'i party and picnic and camping tima for Southtown Girl they complete their regular yearly activities and begin an energetic Summer program. Their first birthday was celebrated recently by troop 854 of the Ogden Park neighborhood with a party for themselves, their pareAa and friends. The troop has 21 members, with 19 having received their tecond class awards. The Mothers' elub presented the troop with a flag before large birthday cake WM served Mrs. Mildred Ridderhoff, 1216 73rd and Mrs.

Lorraine Mitchell, 7230 S. Green are leaders of the troop which meets at the First Mennonite church, W. 73rd and S. Laflin sts. Mrs.

Margaret Olson, 8945 S. Carpenter st, was elected president of the Brainerd Neighborhood Girl Scout association for the 1954-55 year. Other new officers of the association are Mrs. Elinor Yost, 8952 S. Justine secretary-treasurer; and Mrs.

D. Sherman, 8956 S. Throop program chairman. Mrs. Olson was hostess at a party held recently for the association members The Brainerd group held their Picnic for Scouts and Brownie's Saturday at Ryan Woods.

The Girl Scout Mothers' club of troop 29 will hold a luncheon at 1 p.m. Thursday at Jacy's. Their new officers who will be welcomed at the luncheon are Mrs. Rose Green, 8831 S. Justine president; Mrs.

Lillian Delanty, 9214 S. Bishop vice- president; Mrs. Ivy Kwaak, 1046 W. 92nd pi-, treasurer; Mrs. v.

Jepson, 9238 S. Throop secretary and cookie chairman. The retiring president, Mrs. Elinor Yost, 8952 S. Justine is in charge of arrangements.

Three skits, "School "The Hat Bow," and "Something Different in Hats," were presented by Girl Scouts of troop 1522 when they entertained their parents at a party last week. The troop is sponsored by the Highland Business Men's association. Second class badges were awarded to Carolyn Boennan, Patricia Conerity, Mary Patricia Cosentino, Eileen Kathy Greene, Mary Jo Kavanaugh, Sally McClintock and Linda Phillips. Mary Wever, Susan McClintock and Jacqueline Reidy were awarded clerk badges. Other badges were given to Mary Wever, design; Jacqueline Reidy and Geniene Quinn, housekeeping; Mary Margaret Weber, photography; Beata Marie Schaefer, hostess, and Bonnie Egan, writer.

All of the troop members received homemaking badges. Susan McClintock was awarded a service pin for 25 hours of volunteer service. On the refreshment committee were Mrs. Marvin Egan, 7921 S. Paulina Mrs.

Marcella Conerty 8728 S. Honore Mrs. Earl McClintock, 1511 W. 78th Mrs. John Schaefer, 7707, S.

Laflin St. Their 20th anniversary blue cord was received by Girl Scout troop 239 last week when they met at 8044 S. Princeton ave. with their families. On the program was a play, "The Five Dwarfs and Snow White," and a fashion show of Scout camp clothing.

The blue cord was presented to the troop leader, Miss Lorraine Marks, 8044 S. Princeton who has served as leader since the troop registration 20 years ago. The girls were awarded cook- Ing, swimming, sewing and housekeeping badges while several received 5 year pins. They are Lynette Bares, 8043 S. Yale Mary Ellen Conner, 8138 S.

Final arrangements are being made by the Girl Scouts of South county for the opening of annual day camps and the week established Camp Manistee in Michigan. The first session of day camps ll operate from June 22-July 6 and the second from'July 7-15. 'amp Manistee will open June 24 and operate in two week through August 19.

This camp is located in the Manistee National Forest about 25 miles from Muskegon, Mich. Mrs. Raymond "Wrede, Ever- green Park, is chairman of camping committee, and Mrs. Edward H. Spooner, Homewood, is in charge of the day camp program.
