6:00 After careful consideration of the question the Commissioner of Bridges, early In 1904. determined to reject plans for an eye-bar bridge and to have plans prepared for a wire cable bridge as originally authorised. These plans, were approved in September, 1904; bids Were received for the construction of both anchorages on December 22, and the contracts were let in February, 1906, that for the Brooklyn anchorage going to the Cosmos Engineering Company, of Brooklyn, and that for Manhattan to the Williams Engineering Company, Manhattan. Meantime, both of the tower foundations had been completed. The plans for the tower cables and suspended structure were commenced as soon as approved by the Art Commission.
