JANUARY 7.1973 EPage9 Confessions about a real beauty queen: She does not talk about all her charm By NANCY SKLK One of the 15 loveliest women in the Miss World contest this year has been visiting her aunt in Tinley Park, shoveling snow with delight and making friends herever she goes. seems untouched by the glamour that is hers. She leaves the imprint of an extraordinarily unspoiled. unaffected young woman. "I was most struck by her sitnpleness and her unselfishness." commented her aunt and godmother. Mrs.

Gerald Frostman, 7757 105th Tinley Park, after seeing her niece for the first time in more than 17 years. "She never talked about herself or all of the beauty contests she has won during the whole week she stayed uilh us. Instead, she talked alxmt her parents, her sisters and brothers and her life on Guam. she's working for the airlines so that she can earn enough money to send her mother to Germany lor a visit. "My sister her mother was raised in Germany but Iwsn't been back there since she married Mary Lou's father, who was stationed there after the war with the Army, and returned with him to his lumily home on Guam.

"At first my sister hated Iwcause it seemed so isolated to her. but in 18 expect she's become used to it. "Now Mary Lou wants lier mother to have the chance to visit her homeland and family there. I have never met such a generous person," said her aunt with considerable pride. Veteran of many beauty contests, Mary Lou finds both positive and negative aspects in competing for titles such as "Miss World" or "Miss Guam Hospitality," a title she won in 1971.

On the plus side she lists the chance to travel all over the uorld and meet young people from many nations. On the opposite side she lists the rigorous demands of this way of life and the strain these produce Judged one of the 15 most beautiful entrants in the 1972 "Miss World" contest. Manis completely unspoiled by the beauty which startles those around her. "When 1 first saw her I could hardly believe my eyes." reports the aunt she had not seen for 17 years. "I have never seen anyone so beautiful in my life." As a normal teenager with an average teen's desire for eels and such forbidden goodies.

Mary Lou lists the restricted diet imposed on beauty contest entrants a i demands." Her aunt agrees, saying Man- Lou is one of those who can "eat whatever she wants and never put on a pound." Heady already to retire from the beauty uorld. Miss Guam plans to pursue her own career as a model. A five feet three inches, she looks forward to working in Japan, where her lack of height will not be a disadvantage. In main 1 places, she notes, modeling is "a tall world." "Besides." she adds. is onlv an hour and a liall from my home." A young person with very strong family ties.

Mary Lou puts a great deal of stock in leing near her parents and eighi brothers and sisters. "She could live anywhere she wants in comfortable style. While she was here, agencies called and asked her il she wanted to model hut she said to me. like it Here but I would not want to be so far from my family! She would rather go on as she is." Mrs. Frostman reported.

Man- Lou's visit to her aunt's home in Tinley Park was. in fact, the first time she Ijad traveled so far by herself, without the company family or a chaperone. As usual, she had a chaperone with her while traveling in connection with the contest, but "official business" was over she decided to continue her t-avels alone and stop to see lier relatives in Germany and Tinley Park. "I think she was a bit frightened by being on her ow so far from home," her aunt said. "I saw her become Mustered at the airport when the confusion of the place became too great." Who would imagine that a iK-auty queen, poised and sophisticated, would enjoy the simple pleasures of life? Her Tinley Park family kept asking this during her stay.

"She loved to take walks i us. look at apartments and houses in the community and go to restaurants. One day she went outside and helped my husband shovel the driveway. She loved it. This was the first time she had seen snow." For a native of Guam.

A pretty girl is usually accepted by older people but gaining acceptance among lier peers can be a problem. It's not difficult for Mary Lou Pangelinan. "She's so warm and natural. I can't imagine her having trouble being liked by anyone." enthused her aunt. "My own 16-year-old daughter used to envy her w.isin v.hra she sav.
