Misses Leila Robinson and Zetha Retheford visited with Sadie and Etta Allen Sunday. Sadie and Etta Allen and Mrs. Hamlin and children took dinner with their grandfather, Mr. Parker, of Liberty, Friday. Last Friday being Cleveland Brock's 17th birthday, some of his relatives and friends gathered at Mr.

Sallie McCloudJand friend from Sandy Ridge, visited her brother last Sunday and also Mr. Young's. Mr. Coplin received a letter from his son Heber who has been in the Philippines, he writes he will be home by the 20thr Eva Hicks received a letter from Pearl Scovel. They are on their road home but are water bound out in the west part of the state.

A pleasant party was very much enjoyed at Steve Hicks' Friday night. Those present were Violet Bolte, Freda Schake, Gertie Hodges, Eva and Cora Hicks, Amanda and Lou Coplin, Ethel and Edna Webber and Kate Wiggins, Gertie Bond. Hugh Gilliland. and; W. B. Wiggins, John Gilliland. Harry Boyd and Earl Holden. very enjoyable time was had at Mr.

There will be some wheat cut in this locality this week. Joseph Doop is going back to his home in Texas on Tuesday. John Gibson went over to Wild Cat Monday after his binder. Ros Puneo has rented the Jessie Pink-ston farm for the coming year to put in wheat. W.

H. Doop and family and Jennie Cook drove out to the table mounds Sunday. W. A. Kidd, the Champion binder man, repaired George Rogers machine Tuesday.

George Puneo and Will Goodner took in the excursion Sunday and got home Monday morning. Sam Howard has rented the Mrs. D. O. Morris farm for the coming year at $150 a year cash.

Andrew Doop is cutting the hedge down round his farm. It makes a big improvement to the farm. Abe Berentz came down from Chautauqua Sunday and visited with 'his father and went home Sunday. HAVANA. Wheat harvesting will begin this week.

Brown were at Independence Monday. The sheriff of Labette county came down Monday and subpoenied Bert Partridge as witness -in a state case at Oswego. Children's Day at the IT. B. church last Sunday evening was a most pleasant affair.

The little folks acquitted themselves most creditably and the choir rendered several beautiful selections, beside, music by the string orchestra, composed of Eldora Smith, Jessie Rabb and Asa Rabb and Jess Havener. Eldora Smith sang a solo to her own accompaniment on the guitar, which was well received. Notwithstanding the inclement weather last Friday morning the people met at tne cemetery and proceeded te decorate the graves of soldiers and of friends and relatives. By noon the skies were clearing and a lovely program was made by Rev. Farrell and J.

O. Ross: T. R. Pittman delivering the address at the cemetery in the forenoon. Appropriate niusic was rendered by Floy Moore.

Delia Vore, Clyde Pitt-man, Mrs. Snyder, Mrs. Stafford.Messrs Stafford, Moore, Homer, Lindley and Burkholder. Pearl Pittman favored the audience with an instrumental selection "The Battle of Lookout Mountain" and Rev. Farrell and Mr.

Allen each sang a solo. PARKER. Harvesting has begum. Black berries are ripening. Jennie Edminson is improving.

James Smith spent Sunday with his mother. E. Bouilly called on Joseph Kloehr this week. Maud and Bessie Bailey spent last week with A. Beaty's.

L. D. Winters and wife of Independence was down last week. Gertrude Stephenson was taken very ill Sunday but is improving. Day Alverson and Ross Stapleton of Edna were in this burg last week.

S. L. Brown returned last week from Gueda Springs much benefited in health. There was a very pleasant party given by Mr. Carpenter to his daughter, Georgie Carpenter of Kansas City Sat urday, evening.

The guests were as follows: Albert and Lucy Hedric, Gertie O'Neal, Grace Caukins; Daisy and Hannah Moore. Bessie Cantley, Otto Hogget, Clarney Hammer, Clmt and John Bridges, Ed Aspania, Guy Thomas, Isaac Savage, George Moore, Ed Petter-son and Maud Ashby, Maud Savage, Samuel Neal, Charley Rozell, Bertie Caukins, Allia Litt, Tom Bridges, Jack Wilson, F. Kantley, Jim Moore, Will Brinker, Mr. Fields, Tailor Sherman, Berry Sherman, Mr. Rogers, Al Gray-half, Charley and Nellie Carpenter and Thomas L.

Brown, Mr. and Mr. Thomas Refreshments were served and all had a good time. PLEASANT HILL. Liger Blower visited at Mr.

Mills'Sun-day. John Keltz has finished picking strawberries. Ed Roper was kicked in the left eye by a horse. Rev. Megill and family 7were visiting here last week.

Mrs. Alice Lucas called on Mrs. Rose Leltz this week. Mr. Francisco and family took a trip to Coffeyville last week.

Mr. Hummel of Missouri is visiting his brother-in-law, John Keltz. Del Francisco and family and Rev. Megill visited Mr. Savage last week.f Quite a number from Pleasant Hill attended Children's day exercises Sunday evening.

A party was given by Edna Keltz in honor of her cousin, Myrtle. Hummel who is visiting her from Missouri. Those present were Pearl Savage, Bertha and Feme Lucas, Irene Miller, Ida Mills, Maggie and Effie Ringeisen, Mary Blower, Edith McKee, Flossie Goddard and Earl Shoup. Bloom of Independence, spent, a a few days last week in this vicinity. Miss Lillian Jones went to Independence Monday to attend the institute. Walter Bowersock, our former store keeper, was up from Weldon Tuesday. Quite a number from here attended the children's day exercises at Havana and Tyro Sunday night. SPRING VALLEY.

C. Brooks and son. Clyde, of Rutland, visited Mr. Frost's family last Sunday. Henry Aiken and wife spent Sunday with his parents There will be a holiness meeting at Hard Rock Sunday night.

Rev. Young of Mound Valley, is now visiting Rev. Raney's family. Will Zinn, Charley Kimley and Ches ter Huff attended prayer meeting at Mr. Raney's Thursday night.

Walter Hay ward and Mr. Harrison of Elk City, was in the vicinity Sunday. Esther Huff, who was working at Mr. Raney's of Elk City, returned home Friday to stay. FEEBLER.

Mr. Johnson and wife went to town Tuesday. Good Brunemer of White Post was' in this vicinity Monday. J. W.

Miller cut wheat for Sam Con nor Monday. Born to Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Pitts, a son. Henry Seltzer and wife visited with Sam Dillon and family Sunday.

Ella Johnson went over to her cousins Wendell Hobsons, who lives south of Liberty to help cook for harvest hands last week. Quite a number of Peeblerites went fishing this week. They brought home two fish that weighed seven and one- half pounds each and quite a number of small ones. H. Bates of Independence was cal ling on friends in this vicinity last week. John Lee and wife and Mrs. Tom Vanansdal all of White Post visited in this vicinity last week. Quite a number of young from this vicinity attended the ice cream social at Pleasant Prairie this week.

Jerome and Alice 'Felker received word by telegraph Sunday that their sister, Mrs. Cambell living in Woodson county was lying at the point of death. They took the midnight train for that place. MAPLE GROVE. Louise Meyers spent last week at home.

Fred Keck of Rutland, was in this Vi cinity Sunday. Anna Weingard is working for Mrs. George Molidor. Newt Thompson and Frank Wingard spent Sunday evening with C. Carr.

Mr. and Mrs. Henry Meyers attended the Mission feast at Coffeyville Sunday William Meyer and Mary Edman of Central attended the Mission feast at Coffeyville Sunday. On May the 21st the people in this locality were well pleased to have their ponds filled with water once more. It was children's day at Coal Creek Sunday, the house was crowded.

The children done well in speaking and singing. Andrew Klunipp has finished shingling his barn. He shingled one-half of it last year to keep out the sun, and the other half this year to keep out the rain, and now he has it somplete for both sun and rain. CENTRAL. J.

G. Budke is assisting Mr. Brade-hof in building his new house. A number of railroaders are camped at the crossing by Mrs. Jackson's.

They are engaged in leveling and straightening the track. A. E. Morrison and family visited with Thos. McHargue Sunday.

Amy Gillen is attending the county institute. R. Drawhon and wife took dinner with their daughter, Mrs. George Sicks Sunday. Henry Northouse has purchased a new binder.

Amanda Jackson is building a new kitchen and painting. Chicken thieves are becoming trouble some of late. The Chambarlain Bros, of district 40 were guests of Ancelv and Henry Surface Sunday. Henry Dawson and 'wife entertained company Sunday. LENAPAH.

John Allen and wire returned to their home in Chicago last week after a visit with their parents Mr. Loosly and wife. Mrs. Chas Ellington is entertaining her sister and family of Baxter Springs. Those that attended the children's exercises at the United Brethren church Sunday night at Havana from here were, Chas.

Brownlee and wife, Alpha Ryan and wife, Olivar Cummins, Cornelia Dobbins. Melvin Dickens and wife, Geo. Owens and wife, Cora and Susie Rickey spent Sunday with J. W. Foster and Mr.

Marts lost a cow last week. Mrs. Henry Dowell and children spent Tuesday with Mrs. Ed Dixon. Clyde Rowe attended prayer meeting at R.

Hamptons Tuesday night. Chester Huff spent Sunday with Will Zinn. Louis Noulin visited his parents and sister Sunday. Sunday school will be organized next Sunday at 3 p. at Ellis school house.

JEFFERSON. Cady Mensch has a new buggy. Mina Juno was in town Saturday. Al Wagner was in town Fred Grass visited Evert Ellison Sun day. Ray DeArmond visited with Will Ward Sunday.

A. Cummings and wife were in Independence Monday. Dr. Payne of Bolton attended church at Jefferson Sunday. Cad Carpenter and sister Rosa were in Independence Saturday.

Fred Cummings returned to White, South Dakota, Monday. Rev. Farrel and wife were visiting in Coffeyville Wednesday. Jene Hatton and Lester Mensoh visited at Cedar Bluff Sunday. John and Ina Edson visited at A.

M. Koyl's of Bagley, Sunday. The children's exercises at the Christian church were well attended. Will Carson, A. F.

Broadbent, Harvey Blancet were in Independence Friday. Mr. McCown and Mr. Mason and wife visited 1 Mr. Warner Wednesday.

Irma and Zaida Ross, Nellie Waid, Rena Hatton and Tila Hestey are attending the institute. The young people surprised Fred Cum mings Saturday night and spent the evening and had a fine time. The children of the M. E. church will have their children's day exercises Sunday June 8, at 1 o'clock sharp.

All are invited. Mrs. North and daughter Lula and Daisy Poff of Cedar Bluff attended the children's exercises at the Christian church Sunday night. Take The Dally Journal, because It gives all the newt. C.
