As a Minnesota kid of 17, 1 was a member of the St.

Paul ice hockey team. As contenders for the national championship, we played Cleveland and beat them. We were amateurs playing against professionals. After the game I was offered a jab playing with Cleveland at a salary which was exactly six times what I was being paid as an office boy. The glamour of this proposition was very alluring to me: but the manager of our team, who was an older boy and a Harvard graduate, took me for a walk around Case and Western Reserve Universities, and advised me to go through with rrtv plans to get a law degree in the night school, a course that meant giving up at the end of that season any thought of a career as a professional ice' hockey player.

Considering the scars I had already accumulated playing hockey, and comparing them with what I have received since in the trial of several hundred railroad law suits. I have always felt greatly indebted to our team manager for giving me. sound advice at a time I needed it. After all, it is said that on the dav of the last judgment, the Almighty will examine us not for our medals, but for our scars. the estate.
