Puchalsky, wbo received ptenty of time to set up. hit on three straight passes during the move, "ftie longest was a 24-yarder to Sbolly, but the payoff was a nine-yartier to Dave Bricker. That score occurred 5:17 before balftime and, when the Cedars were forced to punt on the next series, it appeared intermission would arrive with a 12-0 count. Clark, however, picked off an M-burg pass at the Wildcat 47, and six plays later the Cedars were on the board. A pass interference infraction placed the bait at the 32, and Jon Lebo hit Clark with an 18- yarder to the 14.

Tlie Cedars then maneuvered the ball to the one, from where Tom Wengert notched his first of two TDs. Dave Heverling soccer-styled the PAT with 46 seconds showing in the half. Wengert turned into a workhorse reminiscent of Mike Harris and Gary Shoily as the second half unfolded. The junior tailback carried on 10 of 11 plays as the Cedars drove 64 yards on 21 plays to gain the lead. The drive took nearly nine minutes and was interrupted repeatedly by penalties against both teams.

Lebo, a sophomore quarterback with obvious promise, hit Gary Kofler with a 19-yarder, and then Wengert, who was shaken up for a few plays, returned to score from the two. Tom carried the ball 36 times on the night for 116 yards, a 3.2 average. The Wildcats stormed right back to cover 72 yards on 14 plays and regain the lead on the second play of the final quarter. Puchalsky hit Shoily for 20 and 14 yards and Bricker for nine, before keeping on an option-right to score from the six. The Cedars then drove all the way to the M-burg eight before an illegal procedure stalled the effort.

Scott Miller and Bob Norman combined on a key defensive play, forcing the Wildcats to punt the ball with 5:20 left. The Cedars gained possession at their 40 and Lebo immediately threaded the needle to Jeff Fox for a 37- yarder to the enemy 23. Another first down moved the sticks to the 10. Wengert carried on the next four plays, gaining one yard from the three on the final attempt.
