He will resume his studies on January 6. NEWS BRIEFS Mrs. Margaret F. Shaffer, a teacher in the Mount Union High School, and Miss Elincu Hudson, a teacher in the Saltillo School, left today for a two-week vacation in Florida. They plan to spend a week of their time at Miami Beach.

Th were invited back due to their fine behavior and the desire of the area residents to spread Christmas cheer to those less fortunate than themselves.

The kiddies, tired after a long- trip from the city, were overjoyed Saturday evening at the thought of having a fine Christmas in this region. They will return to their homes on January 3. Jimmy, aged 9 years, stayed with the McMullens from July 11 until August 28. When he departed he '-owed to return nere for Christmas and today he is planning to come back to Mapleton Depot again this summer. The McMullens will welcome him at that time, too.

Jimmy comes from a Bronx family in which there are ten boys and seven girls. Rumor has it that Jimmy can expect Santa to leave a host of gifts at the McMullen home for him on Christmas Eve. WITH THE SICK Mrs. Frances Banks of Mapleton Depot underwent an operation in the Lewistown Hospital on Thursday morning, December 19. Her condition is satisfactory.

Her many friends wish for her a speedy recovery. Jay Roy Swan, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Swan of Alexandria R. is a patient in the U.

S. Naval Hospital at Houston, Texas. Jay was slightly injured while on sea duty recently. He would like to hear from his friends. He is in Ward A-5 at the hospital.

Hugo Mayer of 414 Penn Street, Huntingdon, underwent a cataract operation this forenoon in the J. C. Blair Memorial Hospital. At noon today he was reported to be in a satisfactory 'condition. Mr.

Buck, a 19-year-old, factory worker who was rejected for service during the war, offered one of his eyes today to any veteran blinded in battle. The youth made a similar offer last week to Cpl.

Chester R. Per kins, the blinded veteran who wrote Santa Glaus for two "bright shiny blue eyes." The offer was rejected after physicians at Valley Forge Hospital in Phoenixville, determined that the nerves of Perkins' eyes were too badly damaged to permit transplanting of the cornea. "My offer atlll stands," Buck said. "Only now I'll extend it to any blinded veteran who be helped'by an operation. It's just caw of share and alike.

Courtright, who recently suffered a nervous breakdown, committed suicide 'by slashing his wrists after he had fatally beaten his wife and children with a poker. The bodies were found in a cottage near here which Courtright had rented for the winter.

Courtright had exhibited paintings at the Chicago Art Institute and painted murals in several Chicago buildings.
