HIT AND RUN CHARGED GRAHAM The driver of a hit and run vehicle has been charged after Graham police spotted his car early this morning. Edward Paul Barrett of 112 Woodland Drive, Elon College, was charged by officers M.

T. Hughes and H. S. Llneberry with hit and run driving and public drunk after they spotted his 1976 Pacer parked at Your Lounge on Hanover Road. Hughes and Linebery had been given a description of the Barrett vehicle after David Miles Smith of 430 Williamson Burlington, reported to Graham police that his 1962 Ford had been struck at the intersection of Main and Parker streets.

Smith told police that he was stopped on Parker Street shortly after 11 p.m. waiting for the stoplight to turn green when a Pacer turned off Main Street striking his Ford in the side. The vehicle then left the scene, he reported. Approximately two and a half hours later officers Hughes and Lineberry spotted a vehicle matching the description given by Smith at Your Lounge. Smith met the officers at the scene and identified the vehicle as the one that had hit his automobile.

Barrett, who was reported to be inside the lounge and intoxicated, was identified as the driver of the Pacer and he was charged by the officers with hit and run driving and public drunk.
