LOUIS, 111. (UPI) A drag racing car traveling 120 miles an hour blew its engine at a racing event Sunday and flipped into the bleachers, killing two spectators and injuring 19 others. The driver, professional drag racer Bill Bagshaw, 30, Long Beach, suffered a broken collarbone, but no other serious injuries. Killed were Kent Myers, 16, Wood River, 111., and Lana Reed, 19, Festus.Mo. After the motor exploded in Bagshaw's 1974 Dodge Dart, rated one of the 10 fastest cars on the American Hot Rod Association Circuit, oil spewed onto the asphalt track at St.

Louis International Raceway and the car's back tires spun. "At that speed there was nothing he could do to keep it from flying," said race announcer Tony Sheffter of Hamilton, 111. "It was airborne after he hit the guardrail, spun into the stands and plopped back to the grass. An ordinary car like that might not have done that but those cars usually have about 200 horsepowers, not 800." The crash occurred about 100 yards from the finish line of the quarter-mile strip at a spot where the bleachers are only four rows high. Most of the 30,000 fans attending the championship elimination of the $150,000 Gateway Nationals were in higher bleachers closer to the starting line.

Hundreds of spectators streamed from the stands to help the injured, resulting in what track manager Jim Conley called "temporary panic." "People were getting manhandled by a swarm of well wishers trying to do a good deed but who were only getting in the Conley said. The wreck shattered two 30- foot sections of wooden seating, but barely dented the wa is thigh tee! guardrail. 107-Buildtrsand Contractors FLOWING witli fashion's current, lines speed down this long-waistpd shape.
