THE TV ILM1NGTOK MESSENGER SUN DA Y. MAY ir. i jkm. UNIVEPKSITY COMMICI3IENT. STATE PRESS.

HERE AUD THERE. A Thorough Cleansing of the System Now is the Surest Protection Against Spring and Summer Sickness. No good house keeper ever neglects Spring clean ing. With plenty of soap and water, hard scrubbing and scouring, sunlight and air, she soon gets rid of all rubbish, musty odors, germs and microbes, and the dust and dirt that have accumulated during the long winter months. But when the house has been put in order, and the premises cleared of all old plunder and trash, the great majority of house keepers feel that Spring cleaning is over, and forget that their systems may be in a worse condition than the house, and that the bad feelings, debility, loss of appetite, nervousness and sleeplessness from which they are suffering are due to neglect of the more important and necessary work of Physical house cleaning.

A clean house does not insure against disease, but a clean system does. The poisons and humors engendered within the body, the waste matter that is clogging the system and contaminating and vitiating the blood, are far more dangerous to health than the dirt and dust of our homes, In the winter time we give free rein to our appetites, and eat more and oftener than is for our good. We inhale the polluted air of badly ventilated offices and rooms, take little or no exercise, and our bodies become a veritable hot-bed of disease-bearing germs, and our blood is loaded with impurities and poisons of every conceivable kind; and no wonder that Spring time is so often Sick time and finds us in such poor physical condition, with vitality slowly wasting away, our digestion impaired, the liver torpid, and all the bodily organs over-worked and out of repair. 1 Unless our systems are given a thorough cleaning, and the blood purged and purified, the simplest malady may develop into some serious disorder or end in chronic invalidism, and often the pent-up impurities, poisons and humors break out through the skin, and all through the Spring and Summer you are tormented with boils, itchy rashes, sores, bumps and pimples, and all manner of ugly pustular and scaly eruptions. Physical house cleaning should begin with the blood.

It must be purified and strengthened, and when a stream of pure, rich blood is turned into all the nooks and corners of the system, the rubbish and disease-producing poisons are washed out, and the congested channels and avenues of the body are opened, and Physical house cleaning is made thorough and complete. S. S. S. cleanses the blood of taints and poisons and expels the waste and rubbish froni the system.

It is to the system what soap and water are to the house. Nothing else so quickly removes the deeply-rooted poisons and humors that are destroying the purity of the blood and blocking the avenues of health and life. A course of S. S. 'S.

now will put your system in perfect order and fortify you against the debilitating diseases and aggravating skin troubles that are sure to come if your physical welfare has been neglected. S. S. S. is not only the best of all blood purifiers, but an unequalled tonic and appetizer.

It builds you up, improves the appetite, and aids the digestion and assimilation of food, and keeps the system in a healthy, vigorous condition. S. S. is guaranteed purely vegetable, and can be taken by the old, middle-aged and young without danger of any harmful effects.1 S. S.

It has always seemed to The Messenger-Intelligencer that passing resolutions commendatory of a judge, by the bar of the county at which he may be holding court, is more of a reflection on the judge than anything else. We hone it has not come to pass in North Carolina that the character of our judiciary has to be bolstered up in any such questionable way.

Wadesboro Messenger-Intelligencer. North Carolina should send an instructed Parker delegation to St. Louis. Judge Parker is the strongest candidate in the field for the democratic nomination. An eastern paper says the cost of living is rapidly decreasing, and gives as an illustration the fact that cam phor has decreased 29 cents a pound. This is catching at a very small straw for the sake of supporting an assertion. Camphor as an article of con sumption in America households is an unknown quantity.

Besides an ar ticle called camphor is now turned out in chemical laboratories just as an ar ticle known as indigo is made by the chemist. Genuine camphor is much higher than it was ever known to be -Durham Sun. Mr. Clarence H. Poe, editor of The Progressive Parmer and president of the company by which it is published, appears in an affidavit in its issue of this week to show that its average weekly circulation for the past four months has been 11,083 copies.

This is a far larger circulation than any other paper in the state enjoys, and yet it is far less than our contempor ary deserves. The Progressive Far mer is a valuable family paper, high-toned, high-class in every particular It should be in every country home in the state. Yet the affidavit of Mr. Poe as to its circulation does not set well. There are some men whose declarations do not need to be supported by oath, and he is one of them Charlotte Observer.

Judge Walter Clark's brother, Mr. E. T. Clark, of Halifax county, has renounced his republicanism and has returned to the democratic party. He was a.

There are many others like him, who will return to the democratic party, when they see the same old republican leaders getting control of the republican party. The republican party in Nortr Carolina is still controlled by the old! revenue ring and federal officers.n Chatham Record. Curtis Jett, the notorious Breathitt county, Kentucky, murderer, is under sentence in two cases first to life imprisonment for the murder of Attorney James B. Marcum, of Jackson, and, second, to death for the murder of Town Marshal Cockrill, of Jackso'n.

His lawyers, in the effort to save his life, have abandoned the appeal in the life imprisonment case, and it will now be necessary for Governor Beckham to pardon him in that case in order to execute the capital sentence in the second case. Such a course, it is said, was once pursued by a Kentucky governor, but it is not thought that the present governor will follow this rare example. Jett is a cold-blooded, red-handed assassin, and richly deserves to hang. Asheville Gazette-News. R.
