Oliver, hag served a yetbal notice on the Mayor and Cocmeilmea of this city to the effect that he forbids them, la the. name of the tax-payers, expending any more money than the sum allowed by thex charter, namely, 6,000 per year. The (Sty has already exceeded' the sum for this including the appropriations to the Fire Department. There is a fair prospect for another injunction suit on the carpet, and a bill costs for the City to pay. More of this anon.

In pursuance of a call issued in behalf of the colored citizens of the United States, to assemble in Washington on the 9th of December, 1873, the work of self-preservation as a part of the family of this great Republic, makes it incumbent upin the colored voters of North Carolina to send a full delegation from this Statej and for that purpose) a State Convention will be held at Raleigh on the 25th day of November, at 12 o'clock. Barn of, an old citizen of Wilson Couuty, was found dead near his residence a day or two since; it is supposed he died, of heart disease. The Grand Lodge of Masons of North Carolina convenes in Raleigh on Monday, the 1st lay of December next, being the 87th- Annual Communication of the body.

Fayetteville is Retting into notoriety for crime.5 The Raleigh says; A white man, wl ose name we did not learn, was committed to the county jail for the crime of rape upon a lit-til white girl only three years ol age. --The Sfhr. Sentinel: A young man of high standing, a respected membt-r of the Church at Kinston, aged about 18 or 19 years, mysteriously disappeared on Saturday Inst a week ago. 8. It is understood that Got. Sam. Bard of the Atlanta, New Era, candidate for the P. O.

of the' House of Representatives. He has the assurance of support, from. Southern members, who claim the position for the section, and is favored by many Northern Republicans. Intelligence has been received of the death of Mrs. Lee, widow of the late pre-eminently distinguished Robert Lee, at Lexington, on Wednesday last, the 5th inst.

She has been an invalid jc some years, and the recent death of her daughter bore heavily upon her declining strength. Richmond, ICov. 8. The funeral obsequies of Mrs. Mary Custis Lee, the wife of the late Gen.

Robert E. Lee, who died in Lexington on Thursday morning last, took place yesterday in Masonic Chapel, in. 'that tdwn. "Her sons, daughter and a large number of friends were present. 'Her remains were deposited by the side of her husband in the memorial room.

Mrs. Lee was 67 years of age. Business was entirely suspended in Lexington, yesterday, many places being draped in mourning, and the obsequies were very imposing, I FROM ALABAMA. Selma. Nov.

8. The remains of Gen. W. J. Hardee reached here this morning and were met at the depot by a vast concourse of citizens.

Stores were closed and business was suspended and our people united in honoring the illustrous dead. ter There was a spontaneous outpouring of our whole people to-day to receive the remains of General Hardee. The military, fire department, municipal authorities, bar, -clergv and people all did honor to the memory of the i lustrious dead. The bells were tolled during the d'iy and busin-s was "suspended. The funeral procession was the long' st we ever wit-nessel in this State.

It was not a formality, bnt there was general grief in the monstra-tion. 4 The General's old black war horse, Shiloh, with empty sa Idle and his old Corffrderate grey coat upon it, brought Jenrs to the eyes of jnny a who ha4 seen the loved form of the gallant dead on the field of image and amid the smoke of was buried this evening at 4 clock. The burial ceremonies of the Episcopal Church were performed by the Rev. Dr. Clements.

FROM OHIO. CXXA VEXi AND Nov. 8. The Clearing House Committee of Banks of city, to whom was entrusted the issuing of Clearing House certificates, have asked to be discharged, as the certificates all have been returned and by the committee cancelled and destroyed, and securities received been returned to parties depositing them. This closes up the arrangement by whioh banks have made common cause to check the panic.

In every way the management of the affair has been a success, no bank here having failed, and only the sum of $450,000 of clearing House certificates having been necessary to tide over the period of the panic, Sjv i FROM NEW YORK. New Yobk, Nov. 8. Two hundred and thirty men have been discharged this week from the lumber yards in Gieenpoint 100 laborers were discharged at Long Island City; 100 cabinet makers were discharged in the same city 450 men from the Brooklyn, Citjf Works, and 300 men from the Prospect Park Improvements were discharged. James H. Thornton's livery stables were burned to-day loss one hundred thousand dollars. All tho horses were saved. They were insured for sixty-eight thousand dollars. FROM TENNESSEE.

8. Gastellar and Sickles were closeted on yes terday. The Boston and Lowell Railroad began, last Thursday, weighing at Framingham the carp from the West loaded with grain and lumber destined for Lowell and Taunton, and found an excess of 15,000 pounds in one carjfover the weight billed, of 20,000 pounds, a full car load, which makes a difference of $77 in freight, The above was a Fairbanks 50-ton 34-ft. A meeting of the colored citizens of Lenoir County was held at the Court House in Kinsttn Saturday night, Nov. 8th, .1873, in which some of our while Republicans participated. On motion, Rev. S. B.

Williams was called to the chair, and S. Murphy requested to act as Secretary. A committee of five, consisting of A. Mnnroe, L. H.

Fisher, Rev. A. Allison, Jas. E. Davis and G.

W. Stanly, was appointed to draft resolutions. During the absence of the committee, Hon. R. W.

King was called upon to make, a speech, to which he responded in a few brief remarks on civil rights. The committee, after being absent but a few minutes, returned, and reported the following resolutions: Whebeas, A call has been made in favor of Civil Rights, and, i Whebeas, We are deeply interested in this question; therefore, be it Resolved. 1st, That we answer the call, and believe that it is essential to the best interest of the country that a Convention should be held at the time appointed. Iiest-lved. 2nd.

That the chairman be author ized to appoint a committee to make the necessary preparations, by canvassing and advertising," for the holding of a Mass Meeting of all the friends of Freedom and Civil Rights, for the purpose of appointing delegates to the Con ven tin to be held at Raleigh on the iMth of November, 1873, and in the meantime to solicit contributions for the purpose of defraying expenses, Whereupon, the chairman appointed the following gentlemen, to wit Rev. A. I. Murphy, A. Blount, G.

W. Stanly, L. H. Fisher, E. W.

Borden and J. Allen, as a committee to make the necessary arrangements for tha bidding of mass meeting of, all the friends of civil rights, in Kinstou, at the Grart House, on Saturday, Nov. 15th, at 11 o'clock A. M. A ter which, the meeting was addressed by A.
