(AP) Doug Hudson hit Brent Verzwyvelt with an-8-yard scoring pass for the go-ahead points, and a defense led by inside linebackers Richard Romero and Terrence Cooks staged a fourth-quarter goal-line stand to give State a 17-13 victory over Northeast Louisiana in a college football game Saturday night. Nicholls is now 4-0, the best start in the 15-year history of intercollegiate football at the school. Northeast fell to 1-3. The goal-line stand came with seven minutes left in the game and Nicholls hanging on to its four-point lead. Northeast had a first-down at the Nicholls 2 after a face mask penalty.

Mike Wooten took three shots at getting the ball across, and 'Jeff Steele tried a sweep, but Romero, Cooks and the Nicholls line held, turning the ball over to the bffenseatthel. Hudsons touchdown pass came in the third quarter. Verzwyvelt broke' into the clear near the goal posts and made a diving catch just across the goal line. (AP) -Wayne Hills 12-yard touchdown with 1:03 remaining lifted Grambling State to a come-from-behind 30-24 victory over Bethune-Cookman here Saturday night. Hill, who rushed for three touchdowns last Saturday against North Carolina Central, also scored on 1-yard runs in the second and third quarters as the Tigers, 3-0, drove 64 yards in the final six minutes for the winning score. Bethune-Cookman, 2-2, trailed 16-0 at halftime but rallied to take a 24-23 lead with 7:08 left when Remi Watson returned a punt 78 yards for a touchdown. Watson, who caught a 48-yard pass from Anthony Thomas on a fleaflicker play in the third quarter, slipped two tackles and got a key block from Errol Laster as he ran down the left sideline.

Grambling took over at their 36 and moved to the Bethune-Cookman 27-yard line before stalling. A 45-yard field goal attempt by Ardisher Nobahar went wide left, but an offsides call on Bethune-Cookman gave the Tigers a second chance. Hill scored four plays later. The touchdown gave the Mean Green a 14-10 lead, and Billy Brewers two-yard scoring run in the third quarter put NTSU out of reach. David McGinty scored NTSUs other touchdown on an 8-yard run in the first quarter. McNeese opened the scoring on a 37-yard field goal by Lance Wiley. McNeese had gone ahead 10-7 in the second quarter on Scott Dietrichs 34-yard pass to Flip Johnson. Wiley added a 36-yard field goal in the fourth quarter.

The game was NTSUs first at Fouts Field since the stadium was renovated during the summer. North Texas is now 2-1 for the season and 1-0 in SLC play. McNeese is 1-3 for the year and 0-1 in conference.
