The township's seal coating program this summer will be performed by a private contractor rather than by municipal employees, John Col-las, supervisor of public works, announced today.

The move to a private contractor, Mr. Collas, said, was being taken to reduce the duration of the program and thus minimize inconvenice to residents. The employment of a private contractor will mean, Mr. Collas continued, the public works department will have manpower available to follow-up immediately with water trucks and a sweeper to rid the streets of loose stones. The public works department supervisor also said that in response to complaints from residents during last summer's seal coating program, the township has revised its specifications for the asphalt emul-sion and stones placed on roadways.

The new specifications meet those of the N.J. Department of Roads scheduled for seal coating this summer are: Rosedale Avenue, Sunset Drive, Edgewood Terrace, Norwood Terrace, Jefferson Avenue, Gap View Road, Lake Road, Western Drive between Lake Road and Highland Avenue, Joanna Way, Montview 'Avenue from Highland Avenue to Jefferson Avenue, Widermere Terrace, North Road from South Terrace to Coniston Road, Coniston Road from South Terrace to North Road and Canoe Brook Road from White Oak Ridge Road until its turn to the left. Three other roads may be added to the list, Mr. Collas said. The three' streets which may be sealcoated are: West Road, Merrywood Lane and Hemlock Road from White Oak Ridge Road to Coniston Road.

Mr. Collas said residents having specific questions pertaining to this summer's program should telephone him at 564-7061 between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. services in the Millburn-Short Hills business community.
