Mrs. Nussbaum has given in The Business and Professional Women's Club of Millburn-Short Hills has named Sheila Ford Nussbaum, owner and director of the Sheila Nussbaum Gallery here, its 1987 Woman of Achievement.

The award at the ninth annual Woman ot Achievement dinner October 21 at the Summit Hotel. The event will mark the opening of the organization's 2-day "Showcase of Women Artists" in celebration of National Business Women's Week. the American Craft Council, Jewelers of America, Millburn-Short Hills Chamber of Commerce, New Jersey Philharmonic Society, Temple Sharey Tefilo-Israel, South Orange, and the National Council of Jewish Women. and the Hadassah-Hebrew University Medical Center at Ein Karem, both in Jerusalem, and a network of projects in career education and counseling, youth welfare, and land reclamation and development. In the United States Hadassah provides programs in Jewish education, personal and leadership development, Zionist and American affairs and Zionist youth activities.

Nussbaum opened the gallery located at 358 Millburn Avenue in 1982. During the last five years the gallery has hosted numerous art benefits for organizations including Jeffrey Dworkin Infant and Child Center, The Hospice Inc. of Montclair, Albert Einstein Medical School and Brandeis Women's Committee. A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, Mrs. Nussbaum attended the New School for Social Research and the New York School of i I Five members of the Millburn-Short Hills chapter of Hadassah, the women's Zionist organization of America, have been named delegates to Hadassah's 73rd national convention July 12 to 15 in Baltimore, Md.

They are Barbara Cohen, Paula Gornstein, Beverly Orel, Lonye Rasch and Rose Schwartz. The annual convention is being held in the hometown of Hadassah's founder, Henrietta Szold, an educator, scholar and Zionist pioneer. It is the concluding event in Hadassah's 6-month 75th anniversary celebration. The convention agenda includes four days of working sessions on a broad range of issues of concern to American Jewish women and on Hadassah's programs in the United States and Israel. About 3,000 delegates and guests from throughout the United States and Israel are expected to attend.

Hadassah, with 385,000 members nationwide, is the largest women's volunteer organization and the largest Zionist organization in the world. In Israel, Hadassah established and maintains the Hadassah-University Hospital on Mt. Scopus Joan Gassner Private services have been held for Joan Stermec Gassner, 77, of Millburn Avenue who died June 23 in the White House Nursing Home, Orange. Born in Conemaugh, Mrs. Gassner lived in The Bronx, N.Y., before moving here 15 years ago.

Her husband, William, died in October. Surviving are a brother, Kenneth Stermec of Conemaugh, and three sisters. Ruby Doty of Miamisburg, Ohio, Betty Johnson of Dayton, Ohio, and Olga Lapolla of Larchmont, N.Y. Sheila Nussbaum Memorial services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Community Congregational Church for publishing executive Donald B.

Gridley, 64, of Morris Turnpike and New York City who died Sunday in Denver Colo. General Hospital. Mr. Gridley, who had an extensive background in the publishing field, founded Gridley Publication Summit, in 1976 with his wife, the former Jean Keast. The company was purchased by Harcourt Brace Jovanovich New York City, and he remained as publisher.

A 1944 graduate of Northwestern University, he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Born in Chicago, Mr. Gridley moved here in 1960. He was a member of Canoe Brook Country Club and the Princeton Club, New York City.

He was a past chairman of the board of deacons and former president of the Men's Club, both at Community Congregational Church where memorial contributions may be sent.
