GBL Baseball Roundup Brooks Lawrence Pacing Reds In Comeback Try By Joe Reichler The Associated Press The pitching of Brooks and the hitting of George Crowe, has the hot-and-cold Cincinnati Redlegs siz Cards Cinch Mid-County Pony Flag The Live Oak Cardinals with the aid of four home runs crushed the Aptos Cubs yesterday 14-2 to cinch the Mid-County Pony league title yesterday on the Ca pi-tula diamond. Jim Kowal hit two home runs to pace the attack while Mike Murphy and Dennis Adam also homered. Winning hurler Mike Hurley struck out 14 and allowed only two hits, a single by Mike Johnson and a two run homer by Mike McAlpine.

In the second game, the Soquel Giants won out over Capitola 0-2. Len Sletten hit two home runs to pace the Soquel attack. He drove in four runs. John Costanzo had three for three, and Brad Elliott two for three for Capitola. Butch Finta and Len Sletten had two for four while Allen Bishop had two for three for Soquel.

Kowal had three for four to pace Live Oak in the second game while Norbert Ross and Jim Fikes had two for four. Live Oak has a 11-5 record while Soquel and Aptos are 8-8. By Mel Bowen After losing a-13-inning game Saturday night, which they couldn't have won anyway, the Santa Cruz Merchants bounced back last night with a 3-1 victory in the Tri-County softball tournament at Pacific Grove. Saturday, the Merchants lost to Rasmussen and Moody's Sport Shop, 3-2, after playing eight and one-third innings zling again, spelling bad news league contenders. They said Lawrence, acquired by the Reds in a trade with St. Louis the winter before last, was lucky last year when he won 19 games.

In the third, the Cubs, tied the score when Curt Johnson singled and scored on a two base error after an attempted sacrifice. The Braves scored what turned out to be the winning run in the third when Bobbie Dabbs doubled after two were out. Dabbs moved, to third on a passed ball and then scored on a walk. The Braves finished the second half with a 7-2 record while the Cards made their record 6-3 in' the second game with a 9-0 win over the Giants paced by brilliant pitching by Tim Hicks. In the first game, Dabbs and Mike Hicks had two for three.

Tim Hicks struck out 10 and walked only four, keeping five Giant hits well scattered. Only one man got as far as third base and only one got to second. In the third inning Bruce Kint walked and Pete Harris singled advancing Klint to third. Ron Allen got as far as second with a double, which paced the Giants hitting attack. Tim Hicks and Brian Sinnot had two for four while Mike Huntington collected two for three to pace the Cards' hitting.

Bob Jackson had a perfect three-for Saturday's loss put the Merchants in the losers bracket and they have a long road to travel to get back into contention.
