Point Pleasant's season JBL Tryouts On Saturday The first of three tryout sessions scheduled for 7th and 8th grade boys interested in playing on Cedar Grove's team in the Suburban Junior Basketball League will be held on Saturday from 9 to 11 A.M. The boys will be put through their paces at the Memorial High School gym. Cedar Grove will carry a 12-man roster in the league which is composed of 10 communities. Regular season play will open on Saturday, Jan.

4. All Cedar Grove home games will be played at the Memorial High School gym on Saturday afternoons at 2 o'clock. Memorial High -School senior Jim LaCorte will coach the traveling team. Cedar Grove will play home games against Maplewood, Livingston, Chatham Township, Verona and Florham Park and will travel to play Chatham, Morristown, West Orange, and Caldwell. Additional tryouts will be held on Saturdays, Dec.

Pat Sullivan blocked 8 of the 10 Point Pleasant shots fired into his territory; foe goalie Len Lepore saved 7 Verona attempts.

After the game, the fellows decided that several things were responsible for the loss (including some admitted slowness and sloppyness on their own part): the Point Pleasant squad showed a fast and agressive movement, and they seemed to have good control over the ball, contrasted to Verona's lack of control which they blamed on the bumpy field. Another thing that set the Hillbillies back was their loss of halfback Murray because of a broken leg he received at the Hanover Park game last week, although Kaplan played a fine game in his place. Looking to next year's schedule, Verona will have definite state champ potential, for their entire defence (with the exception of goalie Pat Sullivan) will be back and playing. Along with the defence, Dan Potts and Dave Olson are also returning next season. But aside from that, Verona had a strong JV squad this year, and several subs, including Kaplan, Le-vine, Peterson, Mulford, and Hill who all saw a lot of action will be seniors next year.

Last Thursday the Verona High School soccer Hillbillies socked in a fourth period goal against Hanover Park in the NJSIAA state soccer tournament semi-finals with just a few minutes left in the game, and earned the right to enter the finals with Point Pleasant on Saturday. During the game, Don Overholser, who made, the only point with an assist from Don Potts, increased his season score to 9 goals. The team as a whole to that point had scored 28 goals for the season. Verona 14-3-1 was favored in the Hanover Park game but Point Pleasant was the favorite in the final match. Hanover Park finished the season with a 10-6-1 record.

Verona's Pat Sullivan earned his eleventh shutout in the game, saving six Hanover Fresh from a semi-final victory over Hanover Park last Thursday in the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association soccer tournament, the booters from Verona High School were shutout by Point Pleasant Boro on Saturday in the game to determine the Group II state championship. A flock of crows chattered from the South Jersey countryside and greeted the teams and the spectators who had traveled 'to the Hightstown High School field to see the thrilling final match that ended 2-0 in favor of Point Pleasant. In spite of the outcome though, both teams were red-hot on the crisp wintery field. Pt. Pleasant made its first goal about 3 minutes into the first period, after a fancy break away play in front of the goal, Rich Burke kicked the point off a pass from Tom Schwab.

The game up to that point had been fierce.with offensive ball ownership divided about evenly between the two driving squads. Verona's Don Overholser and Dave Orem-land made a few close attempts during that time. As the Hillbillies reclined behind the bleachers at half-time with the score still 1-0, there was no loss of confidence showing from a single face. Coach George Steifbold, who had brought Verona this season to its fine 14-4-1 record, also talked hopefully to the boys during the intermission, while he bandaged the bruised ankle of Dan Potts. Back into the third period, however, Point Pleasant struck at Pat Sullivan's goal-house for the second and fatal time, making the score 2-0.

Bob Ionna drove in the point assisted by Steve Tooker. Verona fought back for the remainder of the game and came so close at least four more times but was unable to get on the scoreboard. Late in the fourth quarter, Verona's Pepoer Redd and Rich Burke of the foe team collided during a drive attempt near the Point Pleasant goal, and stunned themselves momentarily. Last Call For Alumni Soccer This is the last call for those alumni interested in playing "Steppy's" great varsity soccer team.

Don Williams of 91 Person-hette Street has reported interest is running high among the alumni, and certainly the varsity will be up for the game. We hope there will be a good rooting section for both sides. Remember the date Nov, 30, 1968, 10:30 A.M., at the Varsity Soccer Field, Junior High School. Bill Lupo has been proud of his team, winning season or not, and he will be looking forward to playing another year with many of the team.

At least four starters will be out again in 1969: first is Dave Rudolph, a light 175 pound guard, who has played well for the Panthers this season; next is Lou Corbosiero the 180 pound center; two fine end receivers Ewing and Herb Shapiro are only juniors this year. They will be back too. And then there will be Rav Vandermay, Bob Savarese, Steve Boyum, and Steve Friedrich, to pace the Panthers next year. They have all played well this season. Game Directions For those who wish to attend the game on Thank'gK' ing Day, the following directions may be of help: New Providence lies about two miles west of Summit and about four miles south of Madison in the Watchung Mountains.

The most convenient way to reach the field, therefore, is via Summit. A left turn at Roseland Ave. in Caldwell from Bloomfield Ave. will lead into Livingston Ave. and, if followed straight will eventually lead to the John F.

Kennedy Parkway. There is one tricky turn onto Livingston Ave. at the end of Roseland where Rock Ave. cuts through the two: after turning right onto Rock Ave. at the end of Roseland, remember to bear left about a block later onto Livingston Ave.

The route from there is straight to the JFK Parkway. Remain on the JFK all the way to the end (at the Short Hills Mall) and then continue to go straight (the JFK becomes Morris Ave.) Again, continue straight on Morrl3 Ave. and bear left with the road where it takes a bend by the Ciba Pharmaceutical plant. Soon Morris Ave. crosses 'a railroad just before the center Waller, Rodgers Lead MSC State Jerry Waller, senior half-hack and Dan Rodgers, junior kicking specialist gained the major share of offense honors according to 1968 final Mont-clair State College football statistics.

Waller carried the ball 103 times during the season for 321 net yards rushing. He averaged 3.2 yards per carry. In total offense, Waller's 321 net yards just nosed out sophomore halfback Tony Valpone of Somerset with 318. Valpone also placed second in rushing but had an average of 3.5 yards per carry. Rodgers, hitting a single season high, led the Indians with 37 points.

The junior kicking star booted 16 of 18 extra points and seven of 15 field goal attempts for his total. Senior John McNulty was top pass receiver with 1 ten score! I-c? fit I J. L.
