Actually, Henry's make-up job he always looks startled whenever he accidentally glimpses himself in a mirror -is the funniest thing on screen thanks to his strong sense of his own black identity.

Otherwise, "True Identity" pulls an identity switch of its own, turning into the cinematic equivalent of white bread. TRUE IDENTITY Directed by Charles Lane Screenplay by: Andrew Breck-man Starring: Lenny Henry, Frank Langella, Lane, J.T. Walsh, Anne-Marie Johnson, Andreas Katsulas Rated: (language) The Boston Globe "True Identity" will be remembered as the film that introduced British comedian Lennv Henry to American audiences. Henry is a mimic with a winning personality, skilled at slipping in and out of a variety of accents and characters, and we'll certainly be seeing more of him. It must have seemed surefire to star him as a black actor trying to dodge a mob hit by disguising himself as a white man.

But after a bright start, "True Identity" subsides into the summer's pack of lackluster comedies as inventiveness evaporates from Charles Lane's prosaic direction and it becomes clear that Andrew Breckman's by-the-num-bers script isn't going to ring many variations on the film's theme connections between race and identity. Lane will be remembered as problem is that he can't simply get lost. When he accidentally survives a hit man hired by phone, the bad guys think he's the hit man. So he's got to stick close while hoping to stay concealed in whiteface long enough to get the goods on the crime lord. Once the setup is established, though, the comedy stalls, shuttling torpidly between the mobster's mansion and the actor's Village pad, with time out for an audition of "Othello" being produced by the baddie to bolster his legit facade.

Frank Langella brings suavity to the promising director of the Chaplinesque "Sidewalk Stories," and he's still promising, especially as an actor capable of filling the kind of shrimpy sidekick roles Spike Lee likes to play. Here, Lane plays a makeup and special-effects wizard who hides his buddy, Henry, under a wig and a faceful of beige makeup after Henry hears an indiscreet admission by a mob biggie seated alongside him on an airliner that appears headed for disaster. When the plane rights itself and lands safely, Henry realizes his troubles are only beginning. The TV Review: 'Waiting for the Wind' father charm and awe while Parker father. NBC's "Waiting for the Wind, an outstanding example of such a drama, is particularly well suited for family viewing. The fact that its stars, Robert Mitchum and Rhonda Fleming, are making their first joint appearance since the 1947 classic "Out of the Past" may also make it of interest to film and nostalgia buffs. The haL-hour drama tells the sUry of an old Kansas farmer (Mitchum) dying of cancer but continuing to work on a sailboat named for his grown daughter Sara (Shelbey Bradley) who was killed in a car accident five years earlier. While his wife Hannah (Fleming) fusses and holds back her tears, their 10-year-old grandson Charlie (Zachary Bostrom) spends his free time working on the boat with his beloved grand Everybody is Switching to 105.1 dreams and an amazing epiphany opening a gentle window onto nonsectarian faith, the writing is restrained but nevertheless appropriate to the actors. Mitch-urn's character, for example, when asked by Charlie whether he expects chariots of fire to carry him away when he dies, answers "No, just a Ford Fairlane." Looking absolutely like the grandfather himself, Mitchum acts with the easy assurance of his accomplishments, the authority of the Mitchum voice and the gruff love of his legendary personality.

Fleming is remarkably good, her beautiful speech and controlled emotion unexpected testimony to the star system.
