Concerning Mrs. Morgan Everts of Ocean View whe husband presented Clarion, Iowa, with a beautiful pilbllc library, a few yars ibefore his deaU), the Clarion Clipper has the following to say; Mrs. Morgan Everts and daughter, Mrs. Chapman, of Santa Cruz, arrived In Clarion Monday evening, unannounced.

They spent the following day visiting and auto riding, and In the afternoon met many Clarion people at the lfbrary. On Wednesday morning they visited the schools, accompanied by Mrs. O. T. Eldrldge, and expressed themselves well pleased with our school system.

In the afternoon between the hours of 3 and 5, a reception was held for them In the library. Some two hundred ladles and gentlemen took advantage of this oportunliy to greet Mrs. Everts and her daughter and express their appreciation of the gift of Mr. Everts. A reception committee, consisting of the presidents of the various clilbs In Clarion, Introduced the guests to our people, after which dainty refreshments were served In the tasement of the building.

A program was then carried out. Mrs. Everts then addressed the assembly and all who heard ber remarks pronounce them exceptionally fine a literary gem. She spoke very highly of the jM'Ople of Clarion, and expressed her appreciation and approval of the library as a whole and laid much stress on tho work of the board of trustees in using tho funds at hand to such good advantage. Her remarks were very logical, concise and fitting characteristic of a grand and nobie woman and the Mopl felt better for having listened to her, Mrs.

Chapman followed with a few well chosen WTirds of thanks and appreciation for the entertainment they bad received at the hands of the Clarion people. The success of the reception was due largely to the efforts of the library trustee and their wives, and to the work of the librarian, Mrs. Eldrldge, who was a delightful hostes all through the occasion. Edwin Markham In Success Magazine, i The thought comes to me sometime would 1 change my life-work, my choice of letters as a vocation, if I bad my life to live again? Certainly I would not, for tho literary life seems to afford a spacious and exhilarating field for the work of a man who wishes to think and grow. Moreover, literature to me has Ibeen, not a preference, but a passion. That I have been Bible to follow the choice of my heart iplaces me among tho fortunate few, for how many are forced by the tyranny of circumstance, into lines dlstusteful to their sentiment! And, no doubt, this misfit of environment and this misdirection of energy are tho causes of nmoh of the dilatory and Imperfect work of the world.

It seems an unfailing truth that the work, like nest-building and honeymaklng. must be done In Joy. Every one ehould as free, as least, as the artist to seUct bis career and to -work out his Ideals. I ihegan life as a shepherd boy, and even In those early years, I felt the lure of ipoesy. Many a time 1 stretched out on a rock, my sheep scattered aJiout me on the hillside, nnd spent hours over Hymn's "Cain," and Harold." dreaming delicious dreams of a rosy future when I should have nothing to do hut lo rend (books and to writ them.

Since that hour of boyish vision. I hnve leen a mnn-of-all-work a cattle ranger, a fanner, -dltor and teacher. Hut never once did I forget my boyish hoio or waver from It never once did my pnritoso Hug cr my Interest falter. Into all these paths of life I went with my whole heart; and each task was good for me, for it broadened the horizon of experience made me know life. I would recommend to every young man to set his heart upon sonip wise, central purpose, nnd to cleave to It to the end.

Yet, If he Is forced Into uncongenial work, let him not sulk and sorrow, but he up ami at It with consclence-caro, knowltg that the flrst duty of a man Is to he manly, and knowing, also, that some day he may need the enrichment nnd enlargement of this very experience, to fit him for the work if his heart's diwlre. 96-100 Pacific Avenue Opposite Court House San Jose Society Woman Held Locked with her baby In the women's wnrd of the City Prison nnd accused of a crime which she stoutly denies In the face of almost overwhelming evidence Is Mrs. E.
