I have the "Sanitation, presided at the din-kept the faith: henceforth there is laid up I m'r' and bne wfh for me a crown of righteousness." 'T" said in part: "This Is Paul's last letter to Timothy, his son in the Gospel.

It Is a love letter. There Is a difference in letters. Some letters we read, tear up and throw in the waste basket. If Timothy had done that with this letter, of course, we should not have it to read to-day. But Timothy loved the writer, and, therefore, preserved the letter.

In this epistle Paul told Timothy to come to him quickly. The apostle needed some one by his side in the last hour. None ot us want to die alone, no matter how strong our faith may be, or how many visions we have received of God. We want some good friend by our Bide. Thus it was with Paul.

IJenias had (orsaken him, Alexander, the coppersmith, had done him niuih evil, aud the best friend he had to call upon was Timothy. Death to the apostle was simply a departure. Ho could cry out: "Oh death, where is thy sting: Oh grave, where is thy victory?" Paul was just taking a trip to heaven. Last summer a friend of mine took a trip abroad on one of the largo Atlantic liners. As tho steamer pulled out from the harbor, my friend was standing upon the deck waving his handkerchief.

While I stood waving in return, i noticed him wiping the tears from his. eyes, while 1 also wiped them from miiu. We did not like to leave one another, for we did not know whether we should ever meet again. After being on the waler about a week, his vessel landed on the other eide. As he stepped down from the.

gang-plank, friends gave him a hearty welcome. So it Is with us In this world when seme good friend departs, for heaven. We stand around the and wipe the tears away from our eye's, but when they reach the other they, have friends at the gate to give them a hearty welcouio. 1 think of my dear friend, 3. H.

Hadley, who left for heaven on February i), l'J06, from tho Presbyterian Hospital, in Manhattan. AS'hat a time there have been up there when It was announced that Had-ley was coming home! 1 can see his brother, ihe colonel, whom he converted, standing at the gate, wllh Jerry McAuley old Phil McGuire, his janitor at street, side by side, and back of thenij with shining faces and white robes, hundreds of redeemed drunkards, washed the blood of the Lamb. Oh, what a time of rejoicing there must have been. Before 1 was converted I tended bar for Pat Kirien, the champion 'prizefighter of the Northwest. 1 shall never forget the night he gained the championship, for I witnessed Ihe fight.

I noticed that the time they entered the ring the combatant's had their eye upon each other. They were not looking at the spectators, but were upon their guard. Colonel John F. Hobbs, the chief ruler ciuo 10 wasuington in ivpin, wnicu iu- eludes a visit to President Roosevelt, who is an honorary member of the club, and introduced the first and principal Bpeaker of the evening, James F. Morton, passed the conduct of the meeting over io "Judge" William B. Green as toast-master. Mr.

Morton, who is a man with a fiery red head, talked against the superstition adverse to red-headed people, and Bpoke of the great men and women of history who had auburn, hair. He claimed that they proved that the possession of locks of that color showed that they were persons of mark In the world, who would not be frightened by the proximity ot a white horse. His address was one which showed much research and was interesting iu every way. After saying a few words In praise of Brooklyn, the toajtmaster Introduced Marshall Montgomery to show that the superstition that Brooklyn was without musical and artistic talent was unfounded. Mr.

Montgomery was heartily applauded for his work. John P. Scrymser, former chief ruler, and a resident of this borough, made a brief address which was listened to with attention, and Alderman Reginald Doull, ot Manhattan, was asked to give his impressions of this borough. He was very complimentary, and said that his vote would be in favor of any appropriation for Brooklyn's improvement when it was asked. He also said thu when Brooklynites wanted entertainment, Manhattan was always ready to furnish it to them.

Ernest Jarrold, better known as "Micky Finn," spoke in behalf of this borough, which he claimed produced tho finest orators, public men and moral teachers of any borough in the Greater New York. Other addresses were made by the lesser orators of the club, Including Secretary Benjamin Franklin, the former official toastmaster, and the dinner was closed by the singing of "My Country, 'Tis of Thee," which was written by an ancestor of Mr. Morton. The dinner committee consisted of Borough President Bird S. Coler, Controller Herman A.
