The December Issue of Jewish Charities contains an article on the new plans of the Hebrew Educational Society by the superintendent. Dr. Charles S. Bernheimer. He says.

In the introduction of this article, "The section of Brooklyn known as Brownsville, the particular Held of activities of the Hebrew Educational Society of Brooklyn. It is the logical center of the community. It ia my hope to develop it as a center for all elements of the community. "It Is well recognized that in neighborhoods where Jews predominate those who most readily come to settlements and social educational centers like this are largely college and high school boys and girls and pupils of public schools. It is my purpose to reach out to another element that shou'd be given greater opportunity for social development." The annual meeting of the Hebrew Educational Society will be held on Sunday afternoon, the 15th in the lower auditorium of the society, Pitkin avenue and Watkins street.

He said in part: "The American Jews enjoy too mucii sugaring. Our life Is a continual tribute and full of compliments. As a result of; this the Jew has an altered opinion ot himself. I "It is true that the Jewish race is the; chosen people, but It Is not that we; are better than any other people.

1 does mean, however, that we must be- come better than other races. "With the wonderful powers with which Knun otnoowerpd and the wonder- i weutt.tr w. ful opportunities elven the American Jews, they should be able to live up to the ideals of Judaism." Dr. Lyons emphasized the fact that the Jewish people were particularly a religious people and not a commercial or in-te'lectual people.
