And, Filth Avenue stores which first feel publio demand report that the popularity of these "skimpies' 'is such that probably they will appear in flannel in the fall. It's the big, new trend.

Not that you can't have your floor-length nightgown to slumber in if you wish. Those are there well within the WPB regulations. In face, right along with the sweeping desire for shorties goes a strong loyalty among the customers to soft, full nightdresses. Most popular night garment in one store, for Instance, is a very lon. full-sleeved summer nightie.

It's made of finest batiste, gaining in softness each time it's washed, and has a dainty eyelet lace edge, a round peasant-like drawstring neck. THE ONE PIECER TAKES OVER ON CAMPUS The batiste gown calls attention to the continuing predominance of cotton fabrics for summer coolness. But, gowns are often snipped to the knee. The knee-length grandfather's nightshirt, introduced in mannish cut last fall, is back again and prettier, with ruffles at neck and wrist Sides are slit and the sleeve has an action pleat Patritoio and-then some night costumes appear in broadcloth and ravon, in tailored and curvesome versions. Most typical of the trend is one with a top which could double as a blouse.

For sleeping, the blouse is worn outside. Pink and white striped sheer cotton make it The trouser ends several inches above the knee. A terrifio future on college campuses is predicted for the one- piecer. It is a blitz-worthy thing: slip it on, and then slacks or skirt, and you're down cellar, or wherever you shelter, in no time. Coin-dotted in green or white, it has a blouse top with a bow at the neck.

College girls are buying this garment with alacrity now. They say it will summer as playsuit and as a sleeping garment and later will be their one garment under knee- length slacks and under suits. Which is symptomatio of decided tendency on the part of the customers to reduce the number of their undergarments. Maybe it's just for summer comfort But buy ers say maybe it will go on in fall, too.
