Nothing remains now but the site ol the little frame structure which was erected years ago near the corner of Craved and Pollock streets long before the recollection of our oldest citizens. This littlo building was first occupied by Moses Griffin, the founder of New Berne's first free school, which school building stands on the Fair grounds. It was afterwards used by John Creedman as a tailor shop; Daniel W. Hurt for the 8am a nurnose' Mai. Jno.

Hushes Tn Flrea Yeareraay. At 4 35 p. m. yesterday an alarm of fire got the department out, to which it responded with its usual celerity The fire proved to be a hot one, which seems to have started i a kitchen in a frame dwelling house in Jerkins alley, ownod by B. S.

jion, and occupied by a colored" family. Before the fire was gotten under control the building iu which it darted wasdeetroyed and an adjoining one was partially consumed, the latter also belonging to B. S. Guion. The tenants saved moat of thoir housohold effeote.

Both houses were partially insured. The second fire alarm was sounded wii i IXVI I1XT II eadows Cotton eadows Gold Leaf Tobacco 1 The Tokaero Wareaease. A meet'ng of the directors of the Tobacco Warehouse Company was helj yesterday at Dr. Streot's office, where an active discussion took place with definite action being entered upon for the warehouse. The Hstion of site, and the consideration of a manager were chiefly discussed and both matters will be determined within a few days.

The following are the officers of the Company which were elected, which are again published for the informal of all: President, Dr. N. H. Street, Vice K. R.Jones.

The looked-for event of the club took place last night at Lowthrop Hall, and the Patriarchs who have not given a German in the paet teu years, proved most conclusively that whilo time may have passed, yet so far as giving Germans is concerned they are striotly up to The German given last night by the Patriarchs German Club was in honor of the young people of the city, and the young people enjoyed the occasion to the fullest extent. It was after nine o'clock when the first inspiring strains of music were struck by the Italian band of musi cians, and the gay and handsome Patriarchs with their merry and beautiful gnests began the first fig ure of the German. Seldom has Lowthrop Hall wit nessed so gay a gathering, probably never before has it seen so many couples upon its floor at one time, and as figure after figure was called off, and the merry dangers swing in the bewitching waltz, or danced in tho scene seemed to become gayer and bright er, the music more inspiring, trie couples responded more quickly to the calls of their Leader, and tho Patriarchs forgot the interren ing years which have passed since they considered themselves young, and for this occasion they were truly young again, as much so a they could ever have possibly been And the guests of the Patriarchs enteriua; fully into tho pleasure of the occasion, danced as if cure nevei existed and there were no tomorrows, and as if danoing was a joy forever, never ending, never ceasing. Hour after hour passed without note being taken of their flight by the merry throng, but there must be f.n end to everything, so there was to this indeed "famous" German, and with most happy, if lingering, adienx, the Patriarchs and theii guest 8 took leave of each other, and the German was a thing of the past, but its memory will always be tained, even if it be ten years bofore another Patriarch'sGerman be given, Mr. 0, II.
