The Pacific Coast conference meets here tomorrow and Sunday to probe reports of illegal financial aid to athletes by Southern California, California and Stanford. White Sox Move Step Nearer Title In a loosely played game, the Aptos White Sox moved a step nearer the Mid-County Little league pennant as they walloped the hapless Suquel Athletics, 21-12. The Aptos Seals moved into a tie for first place in the Farm league when it defeated the So- qucl Padres, 13-8.

Both teams now have identical eight and three marks. The White Sox clinched the game in the second inning with an 11-run outburst. It was the White Sox's tenth victory in 12 starts. They need to win only three of their remaining six games to clinch a tie for the crown, while four out of six automatically means the pennant. Today's game finds the Live Oak Browns and Capitola Senators meeting in the finale.

The victory moved the Lions to within one-game of the unbeaten New Car Dealers. Mcpherson faced only 21 batters during the seven-inning fray. Three men reached base, two on walks and one via an error, but all were picked off. Only one moved further than first and he was nabbed on third.

Seven IOOF batters went down on strikeouts. Jackson, the losing hurler, pitched creditable ball. They put together a 14-hit attack while Bob Cardiff limited the losers to five hits. Last year Jefferson took measure of the locals, 12-5. But Santa Cruz finally appears to have found itself.

Playing with almost an identical team as a year ago, the Hawks looked very impressive. In 1955 they could win only one game. Aliberti will probably go with Cardiff, holding back Jack Mc-Ilvain and Bill Sheppard for relief duty. The offensive attack should lie much on the shoulders of Rich Hager, Fresno State The stocky clean-up man banged three hits in four attempts against the Realtors. A significant fact concerning the Seahawk offense is their capability of threatening at any place in the lineup.

Last week the entire starting alignment contributed at least one hit. Newspapers quoted Los Angeles sources as saying Southern California admitted 42 cases of rule violations. J. Miller Leavy, a UCLA alumnus and deputy Los Angeles county district attorney, has charged that a group of USC alumni raised $71,235 and paid it to 60 Trojan athletes in two years. He also accused the University of California of having a "phony job racket" in which he said athletes yere given off-campus jobs with pay but little or no work. Cal officials reported finding 20 athletes who received a total of $1100 in the 1955-56 school year as tuition.

That's approved in the conference but President Robert Gordon Sproul of California has never approved such payments. On June 21, Al Masters, athletic director at Stanford, said he had discovered "minor violations" of the football code at his school. He added, "There is no slush fund here, and there is no organized alumni payoff system." On May 6 Washington was put on probation two years and barred from sharing Rose Bowl receipts. The latter will cost the school an estimated S52.C00. Two weeks later UCLA drew a three-vear probation and was fined "$15,000 to bring its total loss to about $93,000.

In addition, football players were assessed loss of a year's eligibility unless it was proved they did not receive illegal aid. The powerful PCC Presidents' Council has called for reports by July 15 from each school covering investigations of coaches and booster club activities in the past year. The school leaders also voted unanimously to: "Recommend to their faculty representatives that the process of deliberating on individual cases and assessing penalties he carried to a prompt conclusion: and that as soon as it is concluded and before September 1, 195G, all cases and penalties be reviewed at one time and be certain that there has been fully equitable treatment between and among cases." The meeting here this weekend was set before the July 15 deadline WtiS established by the presidents, but its dates were not changed. This might indicate that further reports may be presented at the meeting or sent to the conference next week. Tag Team Match Slated Tonight A tag team match pitting Big Bill Miller and Angelo Cistoldi against Salvador Kovacs and Art Michalek is the main event on tonight's wrestling card at the civic auditorium. In the preliminary bout, Pete Peterson opposes Juan Humberto.

The first event will get underwav at 8:30 p.m.. according to Promoter Joe Clark. Kile. In their last home stand, the Braves lost 10 of 15 and tumbled from first to fifth before catching fire with an 11-game winning streak on the road. Now they've lost two of three on the current home stand.

An even worse home record came to an-end itt-the-Amcrican league as the Detroit Tigers who had gone through 15 games without a victory at Briggs stadiumlaid the wood to Cleveland and Bob Lemon to win 13-7 and put the third place Indians games behind first place New York. The Yankees, with fiil Mc-Dottgald banging in four runs with a homer, double and single, defeated Boston 61 in a scheduled day night double-header that saw the nightcap postponed by rain. It was the only other game scheduled in the AL, and pushed the Yanks' lead to four games over idle Chicago. The sixth-place Cubs, who have taken six of their kct nine, including three-ot'-four from the Braves, socked Milwaukee and Ray Crone with five runs alter two were out in the seventh inning. Eddie Miksis eighth homer started the uprising as six straight hits snapped a 1-1 tie.

Don Hoak and Dee Fondy each had RBI doubles in the big frame while Gene Baker sliced a two-run single. Vito Valentinctti, making his first major league start, and Jim Brosnan four-hit the Braves. Bros-nan won his second with one-hit ball over 4V4 relief innings, coming on when Valentinetti injured his knee covering home plate on a wild pitch that scored the Milwaukee run. McDougald's three-run shot in the third off loser Bob Por-terfield iced it for the Yankees as Whitey Ford won his 10th with a seven-hitter. It was his third straight over the Red Sox.

Detroit's Frank Lary was tagged for a first-inning bases-loaded home run by Jim Busby and a three-run shot by Al Rosen in the sixth, but he gave up only three other hits and coasted in as the Tigers rocked Lemon to his sixth defeat with 11 runs in the first three frames. Harvey Kuenn poked a three-run homer and Lary singled two home in a five-run third inning. BC Tigers Score 3rd Straight Win Paced by the hitting of Steve Rodriguez, the Boulder Creek Tigers scored their third straight victory in the San Lorenzo Valley Little League yesterday afternoon as they defeated the Felton Indians, 12-2. The Tigers, who won the first half schedule, were trailing 2-0 going into the bottom of the second when they erupted for six runs on four hits to clinch the game. Rodriguez had a perfect day at the plate with three for three.

Bob Adams was the winning pitcher. He limited the losers to six hits, walking four and striking out six. Today's game pits the Scotts Valley Senators against the Ben Lomond Yankees.
