WORK OF ACTIVE GUILDERS SOME IMPORTANT NEW BUILDINGS NOW GOING UP IN THIS BOROUGH New Home for Kismet Temple, Mystic Shrine Structures for Office and Business Purposes Churches and Schools in Course of Construction A Lofty Hotel Buildings Decorated and Illuminated for Celebration Streets Where Crowds of Spectators Will Assemble. place, and will rent from $800 to $1,000 each for a year. They will be provided with steam heat and electric light, and will fill a much needed want of small shopkeepers, who are being crowded off from Fulton street by the continually increasing rent demanded for properly on that thoroughfare. The most important operation, however, undertaken this fall.

Is the construction of-twr n(y-four eight-family tenements In the vicinity of Third averue and Twenty-ninth street, to accommodate the influx of factory hand3 employed In the model factories of the Bush Terminal Company. The Bum Terminal Ccmpany Is now building the fourth unit In their comprehensive scheme for the ultimate construction of fifteen of the most up-to-date factory buildings to be found anywhere. What this means to that paxl of Brooklyn Is realized by few at the present time. The twenty tenements now in course of construction will accommodate about one bceii placed to outline it in fire, it can-ool be questioned that as seen by day it preseuts aD attractive It remains to fee feen whether the effect of the decorntlons will be to detract from its appearance when lighted up. If it does it will be a matter of regret that the decoratious were not placed on the Court House and the Municipal Building, for whose adornment no money Is being expended, and which will not be illuminated.

The electric light effects on the Soldiers and Sailors' Arch, the Water Tower and the Museum of Arts and Sciences, all of which are to be outlined in fire, will not be detracted from by any decorative effects. Like the bridges across the East River, they will stand forth In all their beauty of line and proportion when the electric current Is turned on at 6:30 this evening, and every evening for a fortnight. The lighting effects of the Hudson-Fulton celebration promise to be as effective In this city as those of the Pan-American Exposition In Buffalo, which made a lasting impression on all who saw them. The Shore Drive, officially known as Bay Ridge Parkway, to which so many thousands of persons have been drawn today by the promise of a superb naval spectacle on the waters of New York Bay, Is somewhat over three miles in length, stretching along the waterfront from Sixty-fifth street to beyond One Hundredth street, at Fort Hamilton. It was transformed after the Park Department took control of it, from a rambling country road, Into a fine parkway.

Albeit the plans for Its complete Improvement have not yet been carried out. When finished It Is expected to compare favorably with the finest drives in the whole world. The Eastern Parkway, to which multitudes will throng next Friday to witness the historical pageant, is seven and a half miles long, but the of shops is being constructed, end at Hoyt street there is another business structure. A bachelor apartment building is to rise in Livingston street, near the large department stores. A new dffice building, designed to accommodate especially physicians and dentists, is going up in Joralemon street, near the Packer Institute, and another structure Intended to be used as offices by members of the medical fraternity is In course of construction In Hanson place, at South Elliott place, the sites of both being close to subway stations, with an eye to the future use of underground means of transportation to obviate delay so far as possible, although automobiles and perhaps flying machines may enable physicians to lose no time in reaching the destinations at which they are ceieDration, wno know ci profits obtained from Broo investment.

A meeting was recently held at the Theodore Roosevelt Republican Club house, under the auspices of some of the property owners of Dennington ave nue. Woodhaven. L. I. It appears that the City of New York has never taken title to Dennington avenue, and the meeting was called for the purpose of perfecting plans whereby each property owner could deed to the city such land which Is available to the street and thus avoid any future condemnation proceedings.

A committee, consisting of W. S. Atchison. Charles Pfeffer, Alfred I. Edio, I.

The engineers of the New York Connecting Railway Company have resumed work on the drafting of new plans for the immense bridge, which will span Hell Gate and connect Westchester County with Queens Borough. The original plans for the structure 'were rejected by the Municipal Art Commission on the single ground that the structural designs were not up to the esthetic standard required at present by the city.

"In the drafting of new plans the engineers will be guided by the criticism of the commissioners. As soon as the new bridge design has been approved, the Connecting Company will be ready to begin work on linking Westchester County with Queens and the establishment of connections with the lines of the New Haven and Pennsylvania-Long Island systems. The entire right of way for the road, from Scaly Rock, on the Astoria shore, to the Glendale section of Queens, a distance of about five miles, has been secured by the purchase of a long strip of land, extending from Astoria, through Long Island City, to the line of Trains Meadow, at Cabinet street. The Queens land purchases represent an outlay of $5,000,000. On the Westchester shore the New Haven line has already taken title to the necessary land.

The construction of the roadbed of the Connecting Railway will be begun simultaneously with the bridge work. The first section of the line1 will cross, the main line and principal branches of the Long Island system and extend to the Sunny-slde yards in Long lslond City. At this terminal passengers from Flushing. Malba, Whltestone and eastern Long Island sections may board trains for all points on the Pennsylvania and New Haven roads. The freight road to Bay Ridge will be built when the passenger lines have been completed.

The total estimated cose of the project, including the bridge across Hell Gate, is $25,000,000. INVESTS IN LARGE PLOT. Somerville Realty Company Secures Tract on Crescent Street. Stores and Apartments in Lower Broadway Shops in Livingston St. 20 Tenements in South Brooklyn. The Realty Associates, one of the largest and most successful real estate operating firms in the greater city. Is carrying on at time many different operations which are attracting much attention. One of especial note is the erection of two six-story and basement stores and tenements, on the southeast corner of Broadway and Berry street.

Broadway, below Bedford avenue, has shown a serious loss of business, due to the diminished service on the surface car lines below the bridge and to failure of the city to operate the ferries at tho foot of Broadway. This company, however, is thus demonstrating Its faith In the speedy resump- New Brick One-Family Dwelling, on East 49th Near Snyder Ave. Recently Sold by Wood, HBrmon to Frank Horton. tlon of the ferry service and the ultimate recovery from the business depression on lower Broadway, which must result from its close proximity to tho bridge plaza, and all the lines of cars crossing the bridge, and to the splendid backing furnished by the great factories lining the water front on either side of lower Broadway. One cause of the depression referred to is due to the fact that the old buildings provide only large stores.

To meet the new conditions, the Realty Association is dividing up its new buildings Into small stores to rent, from $15 to $30 a month, and the upper floors into small apartments of three to four rooms, each to rent from $10 to SIC a month. These two buildings are arranged to accommodate seventy separate families, providing each family with an apartment of which every room is an outside room, accommodations far superior to those in which most of the people In the section are obliged to and at no greater expense, being thus afforded. These buildings are the beginning of a new era of contsructlon In thts part of the city, and will result in a return of something like the old-time business prosperity on lower Broadway. Another operation of this active company is the erection of sixteen small one- story Btore buildings on the south side of Livingston street, he 'head, ef Hanover place. These uiitldlngs, "while not intended for very many years or occupancy, are to have artistic ornamental concrete fronts, and will bo conspicuous from Fulton street, looking up Hanover LEGAL NOTICES.

Iogan Holmes, Plaintiff's Attorneys, 44 Court street, Brooklyn, N. Y. 20-3w jM tures are now going up in this DOrOUgU no Music, completed last year, and the Masonic Temple, which was finished this year, there arc a considerable number of noteworthy structures under way or contemplated. They will add considerably to the list of important edifices which year by year steadily increases. Work has not yet begun on the skyscraper which Is to overtop all other office buildings in the vicinity of Borough Hall and is to rise on the site occupied by the old Dime Savings Bank, at Court and Remsen streets, but it is promised as one of the developments of the near future.

The work is well under way on the edifice which Is to form the permanent home of Kismet Temple, Nobles of the Mystic Shrine, In Herkimer street, near Kostrand avenue. Nothing has yet been done toward the construction of the new opera house, which Is promised for the Grant Square section for next year, Rnd which Is expected to create a new musical center in the Bedford region. The only new municipal edifice under way is that designed as a home for the Health Department, at Flatbush Avenue extension and Wllloushby street. The cheme for the erection of a new Municipal Department building on the site adjoiping the present one 1s In abeyance for the present. No site has yet been selected for the projected new Court House for the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court.

In office and business edifices the most notable present construction Is that in volved In the remodeling and refitting of the old Assembly Building in Washington street, near Myrtle avenue. With its new front, the structure presents an especially attractive appearance, and the reconstruction of the Interior will make it well adapted to office uses. A bachelor apart ment structure is to be erected on the opposite side of Washington street. The work of replacing the burned Park Theater In Fulton street, opposite Borough Hall, with a business structure, is rapidly advancing, but the fact that It will be only two stories in height will detract from the appearance of the block. In view of the great loftiness of the adjoining structures.

It would seem a pity that the plans at one time entertained of putting up a four-story edifice had not been carried out. A number of noteworthy church edifices are under way and new School buildings have been completed for the present educational year and others are under way.

The plans are In course of preparation for another wing of the great Museum of Arts and Sciences, which crowns the height to the eastward of Prospect Park and the site has been selected, close to the main en-i trance to the park, for the Central Ll- biary of the Carnegie system in this i borough. A splendid mansion overlooking the city's chief pleasure ground, on Proe- pect Park West, to cost In excess of a hundred thousand dollars, is to be added to the structures there, and on the Shore Drive a still more stately structure, to coat over a quarter of a million, will look out over the waters of the Upper Bay. This borough has put on its gala attire for the great celebration beginning today, and a great number of buildings, both public and private, have blossomed forth in buntiug.
