It was not going to be a political organization, but its object would be to see that right men were selected for office and that the laws enacted would be enforced. He stated ihat men entering upon a public career needed the guidance of Christians. The gathering was next addressed by Mr. Gledhill ot the South Third Street M. E.

Church. He said that he was inter- -sted in labor organizations for twenty-''ve years and was a member of the Cen-ral body. He declared that the reason hat workingmen were not regular churchgoers was because the churches were not sympathy with their organization. Te said that laboring men held aloof 'rom the churches for no other reason, nd added that there are many pulpits hat would not dare speak in favor of he labor cause. Continuing he said that here were but few churches in which the meial body was composed of working-nen.

Where this exception was found 'e declared it was because the wealthy lenient had moved to some other part of he city. At this point the speaker uoted from the address of Secretary "aft at Cooper Union and declared that he latter's remarks on the labor question were true. 140 ft Av 40x100. To the Editor of the Brooklyn Eagje: I would like to call the attention of the citizens, especially the business men of the Park Slope section, to an evil that Is constantly spreading in this part of the city, namely a certain class of billiard and pool parlors. If something la not done to check the growth of these places I fear for the moral welfare of the boys 'of the neighborhood now growing up. There are certain of these "parlors" that attract the lowest elements of the city, whose influence is easily communicated to the minds of the more respectable young men who may frequent them and therefore are nothing more or less than training schools for criminals. If our worthy assemblyman would introduce a bill in the Legislature placing a ban upon these places, by requiring the proprietor to obtain the consent ot the property owners within a radius of 200 feet of where he intended doing business, as a man who engages in the liquor business Is compelled to do, it would be well.

It must be admitted a saloon is far less objectionable. I think such a bill would receive the support and commendation of the citizens of the district. I think everything possible should be done to organize the business people and property owners of this district as a first step in the waging of a war on these DAVID P.
