Judge Charges Jury In Englander Murder County Judge Samuel S. Leibowitz at 2 p.m. today began charging the jury which, later this afternoon, would start deliberating on the fate of Ernest Lee Edwards, on trial for the $1 "Virginia style" murder of Howard S.

Englander while fishing at Manhattan Beach last July 5. As the 10-day trial was drawling to a close in Kings County Court yesterday, defense attorney Abraham Brodsky, summing up to the jury, charged that Richard P. Connors, pal of Edwards before the crime and chief witness for the prosecution during the trial, was the actual killer of Englander, not Edwards. The lawyer said evidence had been adduced to show that Connors, on the murder night, wore canvas shoes with rubber soles, and thus could have approached the doomed erman from behind without being heard. Edwards, on the other hand, wore leather shoes and would have been heard.

One of the last day witnesses was the murder victim's widow, Mrs. Iris Englander, who identified her late husband's ring, wallet and other small possessions taken from pockets of his clothes. She broke down as the ring she had given him. with the inscription, "Howard, my eternal love, Iris." was handed to her for identification.
