A wooden staff around which a red bandage was entwined indicated to those who passed by that blood- letting and barbering were done there. The white pole with its red stripes is still retained as the symbol of the modern barbershop. In modern funeral service, as in other fields, efficient specialization-the result of steady progress throughout generations-has supplanted the scattered functioning in diversified spheres by one agency. The Community Funeral Directors, sponsoring these weekly messages, have through their efficiency progressed with the changing of the times. Their modern facilities and sympathetic understanding are available to all.
