V. Condron; Clerk of Session, Harry Jones and Treasurer, Floyd Bennett. Board of Trustees: Chairman, Bride-Elect Mrs. Evelyn Bolinsky, right, Treasurer of the Houston Women's Democrat Council, is presenting the gavel to President Sarah Terling, left, of the newly organized East Canonsburg Council of Democrat Women. The gavel was made by Mrs.

Bolinsky's husband. The presentation was made at the Testimonial Banquet held recently at Club Brazil by the Houston Council. Democratic Women To Hold Anniversary Banquet On April 20 Plans were made for the anniversary banquet at the recent meeting of the Houston Council of Democratic Women. Mrs. Marcella O'Brien president, presided at the business meeting opened by the flag salute and reading the club collect.

Membership chairman, Thelma The Women's Missionary meet- ing of the First Baptist Church will be held in the prayer room Tuesday evening at 8 o'clock. The program will consist of a tape recording made by a radio station DZAS, Manila, Philippines, featur ing the martyrdom of John and Betty Stam, missionaries to China; also a talk by their elder brother, Harry who recently spent time in Manila. Dr. Harry Stam is director of the Department of Missions at Northwestern Bible Schools and made a world tour in the interest of his department and also for the Far Eastern Broadcasting Company. Also in the meeting, important business concerning future sewing will be discussed.

During the social period a special lunch is being planned and all the ladies of the church are cordially invited to be present. Houston News Youth Fellowship Party Mr. and Mrs. John McCarty, sponsors of the Youth Fellowship Society of the Houston U. P.

Church, have announced an unusual get-together of the Youth Fellowship Societies of Washington County being held in the Houston recreation rooms on Wednesday evening, February 10 at 7 o'clock. The MeCartys have planned an interesting program and a sound film. All members of the county Youth Fellowships and their leaders are urged to accept this invitation. Roller Skating Party The Houston Girl Scout Troop in charge of Mrs. Rolland Griffith have planned a roller skating party for the benefit of the Troop to be held at Willow Beach rink on Tuesday evening, February 16.

She is most active in professional work in her own association, the Washington County Council of which she is secretary, and of the Western Convention District, P. S. E. A.

A good attendance is requested by the president, as many plans will be discussed for future activities of the group. Boards Organize At a meeting held on Wednesday evening in the Houston U. P. Church, the Board of Session. Board of Trustees, and Board of Deacons met for the purpose of Church Bids Farewell To Pastor, Wife The members and guests of the Central Presbyterian Church gathered Tuesday evening, February 2 in the social room of the church to bid farewell to their pastor, Rev.

and Mrs. McLean, who have resided in Canonsburg since October, 1947, are moving to New Jersey, where Rev. McLean will begin a partial retirement pastorate there. Charles Jones was in charge of the program, which included vocal John R. Prost was admitted to the Mercy Hospital on February 1.

Dorothy Bennett of the Junior Woman's Club who announced a play sponsored by 'their club on March 6 entitled, "The King of the Golden River," based on Ruskin's Classic. Mrs. Stanley Glenn, corresponding secretary, read a letter from the General Federation of Women's clubs "Korea Needs Everything," to which the club agreed to donate. Members are requested to bring any such articles of clothing or notions to the March meeting to be packed and shipped to Korea. Mrs.

Thomas Reese reported on a recent meeting of the Civil Defense asking for volunteer workers. Anyone interested in volunteering for various services may contact W. E. Zuver. Mrs.

F. E. Stouffer, memoership chairman, presented the names of the following applicants for new membership: Mrs. Albert Garrone, Mrs. Hubert Allen, Mrs.

E. P. Humphries, Mary Elizabeth Wiggs, Gloria Norwood, Euncie Gessler, Patricia Maier, Mrs. Allan Bailsk, Mrs. Albert Powell, Marian Thistle, Mrs.

Warren Lemley, Rose Bradley, and Ruby Fultz. All applications were approved and the new members will be formally initiated at the March meeting. Mrs. Stouffer also announced a dance the "Sweetheart Swing" to be held February 13 in the Blue TJtoom of the George Washington Hotel, dancing from 8 to 12 p.m. Music will be furnished by recordings.

The committee in charge consists of Mrs. F. E. Stouffer, chairman, Mrs. Dwight Anderson, Mrs.

Carl Olsen, Mrs. R. K. Sparks, Mrs Raymond Tiedy, Mrs. S.

L. VanEman Mrs. Paul Wilkison, Mrs. C. L.

Willis, and Miss Frances Willis. Tickets can be purchased from the committee members and will be on sale at the door. The public is cordially invited to attend. Following the business meeting, Mrs. Charles Campbell, program chairman, presented James Vas-Fum who spoke on "Interior Design, Traditional versus Modern." Refreshments were then served by the social committee: Mrs.

Radcliffe's brother, James McCormick, of Hickory. Mr. McCormick, Mrs. Radcliife, Rosann and Kathy McCormick visited Mrs. Mary Neill and Mr.

and Mrs. Frank Neill, of Linden. The McCormicks were residents of the Linden district for many years. Mr. Radcliffe also visited a brother, Daniel McCormick and daughter, Betty of Canonsburg.

Miss Ruth Ann Kidder is attending the state chorus meeting at Meadville as a representative of the Canonsburg High School. She will participate in concerts given by the state chorus there. Nancy and Richard Byers are confined to their home by attacks of chicken pox and measles. Mrs. Frank Neill visited her mother, Mrs.

Emma Myers, of Finleyvillc, R.D. and her brother, and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ross Myers. Born to Mr.

and Mrs. David Abraham, Hawthorne, a daughter, Virginia Susan. Mrs. Abraham is the former Dorothy daughter of Mrs. Charles Sumney of Linden, and is a graduate nurse of Canonsburg General Hospital.

The club is now affiliated with the Federation of Democratic Women Inc. and will have three delegates represent them at the Convention on May 24-25-26 at Philadelphia.

The next meeting will be held on March 2 in the Council room in the Borough building on West McNutt street. and Mrs. John Dagsher, Canonsburg, R.D. 1, announce the engagement of their daughter, Dolores to Jack McCracken. Miss Dagsher, a graduate of Cecil High School, is employed as Society Editor of The Daily Notes. Mr.

McCracken, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence M. McCracken, 317 Lincoln avenue, Bentleyville, graduated from Bentleyville High School and Ohio Northern University School of Pharmacy. He is now manager of Gillespie's Drug store at Caldwell.

Ohio. A summer wedding is planned. Has 78th Birthday McNeal Photo Mrs. William Mawhinney The Baraca Class of the First Methodist Church was entertained at a birthday party in-I honor of Mrs. William Mawhinney, a class member, who celebrated her 78th birthday.

The party took place at the home of her daughter Mrs. James W. Rudge 434 Bluff avenue. She was assisted by her daughter-in-law, Mrs. James W.

Rudge Mrs. Howard Hughes and two sisters, Mrs. John Alder-son, and Mrs. Henry Filey. A beautiful bouquet of mixed flowers was presented to the honored guest by members of the class.

Other flowers were added attractions. Mrs. Mawhinney wore a corsage of pink roses. During the evening, pictures were taken of the guests. Mrs.

Clara Fife, the class teacher, led in a prayer of thanks, after which a lunch was served. Mrs. Mawhinney makes her her home with her daughter, Mrs. D. V.
