Dec. 24, 1984 'Shades Of Harlem' Marks 100th Performance Former Cotton Club dancers Juanita Boisseau and Ludie Jones are featured in the Off Broadway hit musical "Shades of which passed its 100th performance at the Village Gate in Greenwich Village. Featuring music by such greats as Duke Ellington, George and Ira Gershwin, Billy Strayhorn and Johnny Mercer, "Shades of Harlem" recreates an evening at the famous Cotton Club. Boisseau, 73, made her professional debut at the Apollo Theatre in 1933 and later appeared at Connie's in Harlem.

She dance formally and they teach dance and exercise classes to other senior citizens at the Joseph Kennedy Center in New York City. "Shades of Harlem" received much acclaim from the reviewers with the New York Times calling it "an amiable mixture of jazz, blues and showtunes." The Village Voice described it as "an enjoyable celebration of a great tradition." The musical stars Jeree Palmer, Ty Stephens and Branice McKenzie. Also featured in the cast are Tina Pratt, Sheila Barker, Alyson Lang, Nina Klyvert and Melanie Daniels. Bill Rojangles and toured with the Cotton Club Road show after working at the ciiginal Cotton Club. Her film credits include "Stormy Weather" with Lena Home.

Jones began her career in 1934 touring Europe with Lew Leslie's Blackbirds. She has appeared at such clubs as the Club Harlem, Club Zanzibar and the Cotton Club. As a member of "The Three Poms," 68 year old Jones toured with Cab Calloway, Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington and appeared on Broadway with Ethel Waters in "One Meatball."
