And from Nintendo, Super Mario III joins Wizardy, Battle Chess, RBI II and Bigfoot In keeping with the industry's pledge to offer a game for anyone and everyone, The Gamer also notes that Hudson Soft USA turns your Nintendo game system into a martial arts battleground with Jackie Chan's Action Kung Fu and a new Nintendo pocket version of Blackjack offers gamblers the chance to repeatedly hone their gaming skills without breaking their banks.

-Gaming golfers can also putt yarpund with pocket-size Pro-Golf II from Salem Trading Golf Co. and foreign language students can improve their French or German listening comprehension while solving a mystery with Cluedo from Ges-sler Publishing. Dedicated gamers should probably hurry a bit in their celebration of Video Game Week because following fast behind it comes some other remarkable events: International Lefthanders Day (Aug. 13), National Relaxation Day (Aug. 15, a Wednesday of all days), National Aviation Day (Aug.

19). National Sports Junkie Week (Aug. 20-26) and Be Kind to Humankind Week (Aug. 25-31) follow. And, take note that all of August is appropriate for celebrations of National Catfish Month, National Water Quality Month and Recruitment Month.

Alack, National Video Qame Week must share its limelight with several other milestones: National Clown Week, Friendship Day (Aug. 5), Psychic Week National Recreational Scuba Diving Week, National Smile Week and, of all things must we be reminded? Halfway Point of Summer (Aug. 7). The Gamer's suspicious mind decided that naturally National Video Game Week was established to help video game stores sell more goodies. To support that unfounded supposition, The Gamer checked out local video halls.

Alas, 'tis untrue. Tours of local stores found no large signs proclaiming the week, no special sales in honor of the event and store managers unaware of the opportunity. It was business (brisk, of course) as usual, especially at one of The Gamer's haunts, Gamers Paradise. Yoicks, something had to be done. So, to mark the week here's what's out, what's hot and what The Gamer thinks during this auspicious event.

At Gamers Paradise in Chicago Ridge Mall, a helpful Bennett offers these best-selling new games to celebrate. From Sega Genesis comes Populous, one of The Gamer's long-standing computer game favorites. Don't you just love playing God? Populous allows gamers to redesign the earth with all the wonderful omniscient powers of a creator and play a challenging game against the Computer. If the video version is one-half the fun of the original computer game, heaven awaits. Also, says Bennett, due this week in your favorite store is Ghostbusters, joining Budokan and Arcade Power Stick, all from Genesis, By Jim Zerkel i WCtUM CLEAN MOTOR QREASE ROLLER BEARINGS CLEAN CHECK AGITATOR 'CLEAN ALL MOVING PARTS -CLEAN i CHECK FILTER SYSTEM 'REPLACE BELT -CHECK ELECTRICAL SYSTEM REPLACE PAPER BAG Plus ONE BELT AND GET ONE 91390 Not ViM With OthH OHm BUY 16715 S.

Look for a future column on this arcade classic turned video which promises "a free-wheeling ride up the avenues of not-so-typical suburbia" where there are papers to be delivered and bonus points to be earned by hitting targets along an obstacle course at the end of your route. I'll keep track of how many windows, trees and roofs be- come the final resting places of every edition. How about dropping The Gamer a line about your favor-ite video game this week?
