Ordinarily, the hand labor attendant upon harvesting a field of sugar beets is so great that growers either limit their acreage or import large families of foreigners from the cities and from Mexico to do the work. The machine, invented by George Pierson, Chaska, is designed to lift the beets from the ground, knock the loose dirt from it, and remove the Jcafy tops. NO CARPENTER AT AMBRIDGE SCHOOLS FOR PAST 3 YEARS AMBRIDGE, Pa July 14.

O) It has been three years since it. was necessary to call in a carpenter for repair work at Ambridge public school buildings. All repair work is handled by students in the high school vocational training department. School Superintendent J. K.

Hundreds of dollars are saved annually by work of the students, it was estimated. Only for the most, complicated repair work is it necessary to hire "outside" workers. One example of work of the students was erection of a steel flag pcle.

Using pipe donated by the Central Tube Company, machine shop students cut the pipe to the right lengths, jointed it and erected it. The steel hall, capping the pole, was made in tbe school shop. Arthur House, who was president of the Guardian Trust of Cleveland, which failed owing depositors more than received a salary of $90,000 in 1930, and in addition voted himself a bonus of $15,000 plus a Christmas gift of 3,750 a total of $108,750. Six officers of the bank, including House, received in salaries, bonuses and Christmas presents between 192S and 1933, although the bank was borrowing from the R. F. C.
