The normal waist line makes its appearance in the day time and evening mode.

Such stars and players as Aileen Pringle, Marceline Day, Joan Crawford and Eleanor Boardman are having all their frocks, with the exception of sports clothes, designed with the natural waistline paramount Perils Of Radium Emphasized Today By Discoverer PARIS, May The perils of combatting radium poisoning were emphasized today by Mme. Curie, discoverer of radium, in an interview with International News Service. Her views were called forth by news from Orange, N. J-, that five girls were believed to be dying from radium poisoning contracted while working with radium seven years ago. The girls feared they had been infected while painting hands and illuminated watch dials.

"If the girls were poisoned by put ting the tips of their brushes in their mouths there is practically little hope," said Mme. Curie. "When I heard of tho incident I had hoped that the girls had absorbed the poison through their lungs. This manner of poisoning is easier to combat although it is a terrible task to destroy it. "In fact, there is absolutely no means ot destroying me sunsiance once it enters the human body." Mme.

Curie said she wished to emphasize the fact that she is not a physician consequently she is not competent to give medical advice as to treatment. "I would be only too happy to give any aid that I could," continued Mme. Curie. "I am interested to know if the girls were really poisoned by radium or by mesothorium. Once radium or mesothorium enters the body it must slowly destroy itself.

That is the only way a cure can be effected. "Mesthorium reduces itself by half in eight but It would take radium 2,000 years to do so. "I would suggest that the best way for the girls to combat the infection (if it came from radium) would be to give up their work and live far away from the factory where they had been employed. They should remain in the open air as much as possible and change their life habits. "I think that raw calves' liver is about as good treatment as any.

It would help eliminate the poison. "If the Rlrls had not pointed their brushes with their hiotitha the only other method of contracting the poison would have been through the lungs, if they had been poisoned in the lungs through breathing the poison It would have meant that hygienic conditions In the factory were bad. Such a condition would have been suprislng In th. United States. 1 have never heard of a-ctisc ot this kind in France not even In war time when countless factories were employed in work dealing with radium.

Nor did 1 ever hear of a similar case In Switzerland where there arc so many watch factories. "It mny bo that these American girls were especially subject to radium poisoning. Such cases do exist. To avoid repetition of such cases a thorough physical examination should be made of applicants npplylng for work, "We avoid tiw danger of contracting Ue poison here by using small sticks with cotton Wadding upon the ends instead of Indues." ii 0 PAIXESVILLE, May 28. After spending four and one-half months iu ft coma at Painesville Memorial hospital, Helen Buschmann.

19. of West-field, today was still iu the institution, unconscious. The young woman, a Lake Erie college student, was struck by a motor bus near here January 15, last Her skull was fractured and an operation was performed immediately afterward, during which bone particles pressing against the brain, were removed by Dr. Claude Beck, noted Cleveland surgeon. Miss Buschmann failed to regain consciousness and physicians have become more and more puzzled by the strange case.

Supt. M. C. Goddard ot the hospital, has described it as "one of the most extraordinary cases that has come under my observation." Dr. V.

N. Marsh, attending physician told International News Service today that it would take a "long, long time before we will know whether the patient will be able to regain her normal consciousness." "Nature is a great healer, but a very slow Dr. Marsh declared in an interview. "Miss Buschmann shows more improvement than she did a month rr so ago and she is certainly more active than she has been since her injury. We've had her sitting up and once cr twice she has stood up for two or three seconds.

She was able to stand alone but had to be watched for she soon lost her equilibrium and would have fallen if nurses hau not aided her. "The impression one gets by watching Miss Buschmann's movements," continued Dr. Marsh, "is that she realizes her surroundings iu a vague way. She uses her hands quite a good deal, and opens her eyes like any ordinary person, and looks around yet I do not think" she can see, for the optic nerve, I believe, is still affected." Further questioning ui Dr. Marsh brought a.

statement to the effect that the girl's braiii cells, which were bruised when her skull sas fracmred, me slowly healing. "We must have patience and hope for the best," the physician said. He emphasized the fact that Miss Buschmann is in the best of health physically and is not losing weight. "Her pulse, respiration and temperature normal and when she is in a normal sleep a stranger could ot realize that she has been practically 'dead to. the world more than four months," Dr.

Marsh concluded. Mrs. Emma Buschmana, the girl's mother, is in Painesville and spends as much time as possible at her daugh ter bedside. She has made her home here with friends. Each Film Star Has A Favorite' ''Tear Jerker" HOLLYWOOD, May 28.

(INS) When Tobani composed "Hearts and Flowers" little did he dream that he'd written what was destined in later years the champion "tear jerker" of the movie stars. A "ear jerker" is studio parlance for music that will inspire tears for sad scenes in a film play. Each star has her own favorite "crying music" or "tear jerker," but of them all, according to a survey of "inspiration music" made at one of the big studios, "Hearts and Flowers" scores the even hundred. Every feminine player listing to her favorite crying, music 'always, adde "Hearts and Flowers" to her listed preference. It is a general inspiration to tears.

Lon Chancy admits it can make him cry. "I believe it because the tune hasl been used so many years on the stage for sad scenes and that it has this universal appeal for lachrymous scenes," he said, "or else that the old stage producers picked it as the one tune best suited psychologically to inspire the most general woe. Anyway, as on the stage, it reigns on the screen today as the one sure piece of crying aid." Mareeline Day can cry most easily when "Rock A Bye Baby" is played; in fact the musicians sometimes play in for fun just to make her cry. Failing this "Hearts and Flowers" is her next big bet. Renee Atloree likes "Melody in by Rubenstein, for her weeping momentbut again, can do a good job cn (he Tobani classic.

Norman Shearer finds "Traumerle" the best Incentive to lachrymal precipitation, with "Hearts and Flowers" a runner-up. Joan Ciawford places "Macushla" first ns a crying aid. Incidentally, "Macushla" Is Herbert Brcnnon's favorite music while working out a sad scene. But, he, too, weeps for "Hearts and Flowers." "Let the rest of the world go by," "Mother Mnchrce," "The Berceuse from Jocclyn" and "Swaneo aro other highly esteemed "tear Jerk-cm" tiBed on seta by the "inspirational orchestras.
