The mark must be in the form of a half-inch stripe on each side of the fish running from the head to the tail. Thfc dye should be any permanent USP certified food or drug coloring and can be purchased in most grocery stores. If you have any Easter egg dye left over, it will work fine. I've heard there are a couple of firms marketing the dye in dauber bottles, but haven't seen any as yet. On April 15 salmon will no longer need to be marked in this manner, as the commercial season opens on that date.

The dye law will be in effect after September 15 when the commercial season closes. The law is intended to aid in policing bootlegging of sport-caught salmon during the time the commercial salmon season is closed. By Mel Bowcn The major leagues open a week from today, but the CCAL is getting the jump on the pros. All three of the greater Santa Cruz area prep baseball teams will be in league action tomorrow with the spotlight on the Salinas-Santa Cruz encounter at Harvey West stadium. Starting time for the CCAL division encounter has been set for 3:30 p.m.

If there is any rain between now and game time, the encounter will probably be shifted to Salinas. In another CCAL game tomorrow, San Lorenzo Valley plays at Carmel. Arnold Palmer, a muscular young man from Latrobe, sets out today with hopes of accomplishing something no pother golfer has ever done successfully defend his Masters' title.

Since grand-slam king Boh Jones and Cliff Boberts launched this classic event 25 years ago, some of the biggest names in the game have won it. A few have won it more than once. In fact there Is no outstanding favorite in the field.

Among those claiming most attention were Sam Snead, Ken Venturi and Jack Burke Jr. The tor threats in the lOman foreign field appeared to be Australia's Peter Thomson, who has won four of (he past five British Opens; South Africa's Gary Player, who fired a 64 in his final tuneup round, and Spain's Angel Miguel, individual champion of the 1958 Canada Cup matches in Mexico City.
