The 15-round bout had been scheduled for 9:30 p.m. (EST) tonight. The city was swept by heavy early morning rains and afternoon showers were forecast.

It cleared shortly after noon but another heavy rain set In just as Itosensohn announced the postponement. Descendant's Baltic The age-old battle of man against the sea was re-enacted again last week on the wharf. It was a battle that rates with Ernest Hemingway's "Old Man and the Sea," except in minature. The old man's counterpart was five-and-half year old Dan Male of Fresno and the giant tuna's was a 8 lb. ling cod. The setting was the wharf across from the C.

Stagnaro Fishing corporation building, hich is an unusual place to tie into a ling. It was a great fight and young Dan turned In a great performance. Maybe Dan's ancestors have something to do with his fighting skill. His grandfather is Ralph "Young Corbett III" Giordano, a descendant of the great fighter," who was there to second Dan in the battle. Could bo! A Glimmer Of Hope On Tho Salmon Scene Things looked up in the salmon department last week, only to completely die out a couple of days later.

There were some nice fish taken over the "hole" off D-buoy out of Moss Landing that had local fishermen holding their breath in hopes it would turn into a run. No such luck. A bit brighter news comes from the commercial salmon men who are getting big fish in good numbers between Half Moon Bay and Pigeon Point. Reports say the school may be drifting this way a bit, but it is too early to say for sure. Theberge's No-Hitter Stops Tigers In SC Little League -i Miss Hard defeated Mrs.

San Francisco (A" Mur-taugh. the Pittsburgh manager, says the wind in Seali stadium was never worse than Wednci-day, but he doesn't blame It for an error by which the San Francisco Giants beat his Pirates 4 3.

"That last play was just a mix-up." the manager said. "The wind didn't have anything to do with it. The ball should have been caught." With the score tied at 3 in the last of the ninth, the Giants loaded the bases when lloble I.anddrlth, Jim Davenport and Dusty Rhodes walked. Felipe Alou ran for Landrith and Leon Wagner blooped a fly back of second base. Pittsburgh's Bill Virdon and Bill Mazeroski bumped while chasing it and the ball bounced out of Virdon's glove as Alou roared across the plate with the winner.

Dick Stuart of San Carlos hit a homer for Pittsburgh In the second inning and Willie Kirkland got one for the Giants in the sixth, both traveling 420 feet. Stuart said he thought "Kirk-land's went a little farther than mine did." San Francisco scored a run in the opening inning on singles by Danny O'Connell, Willie Mays and Kirkland. O'Connell crossing as Orlando Cepeda hit into a double play. Landrith singled home Cepeda, who got a hit in the sixth and moved up on a sacrifice. Roman Mejias walked for Pittsburgh in the eighth and moved around on singles by Stuart and Bob Skinner.

A walk, a passed ball and Virdon's single for Pittsburgh tied the tally in the top of the ninth. Hardluck Harvey Haddix pitches for Pittsburgh today, trying to change the luck that brought him three defeats against a single victory since May 26 when he pitched 12 perfect innings against Milwaukee only to lose the 13th by 1-0. Haddix beat St. Louis 3-0 on June 2 but since then the Pirates have collected just five runs for him as he lost to Chicago June 7 and 17 and last Sunday to St. Louis.

He still has a 2.97 earned run average and says the extra inning loss to the Braves was "just another ball game" except that it did bring on "some ribbing from the guys." He can't think of a reason for the three losses and says "I'm not doing a thing differently." Haddix, who now has a 4-6 record, is being opposed by Stu Miller, who has a 4-3 record and a 2.84 ERA. Neither has a won-loss record against the other team. Milwaukee defeated St. Louis, 4-0, as action was halted with two outs in the bottom of the seventh. That kept the Braves two games in front of the Giants.

In other games yesterday, Cincinnati beat Chicago, 5-0 while Los Angeles downed Philadelphia, 9-6. Kansas City edged the New York Yankees in the American league, 4-3, while Boston downed Detroit, 4-2, Washington beat Chicago, 4-2, and Baltimore downed front running Cleveland, 74. Thus the Orioles moved to within a half game of first place. I New York. Ingemar Johans- Inglewood (fl).

Camp Evers store advanced to the quarterfinals in the district softball tournament here last night as they won by forfeit over the Santa Cruz Merchants, 1957 district champs and runners-up last year.

The Merchants, who have been having troubles fielding a team this year, had only four players available for the trip. Players showing up at the meeting place included Bobby Soria, Bob Jackson, John Motta and Mel Bowen. L4 GOING SOUTH FIRST InRlewood OH, Going South ridden by Willie Shoemaker, accounted for the Encino Purse Wednesday at Hollywood Park. SLY Kiwanis Will Have Ghuck Wagon Feed Here's something for those going fishing for trout Saturday morning in the San Lorenzo Valley area.

The Kiwanis club is putting on a big chuck wagon breakfast behind the fire hall in Boulder Creek. For four-bits you get all you can eat, and that's quite a bargain. The money from the breakfast goes to the San Valley Kiwanis youth activities fund which makes it money well spent. The feed starts at 7 a.m. and lasts until 11 O'clock.

As an added incentive to drop by, some of the streams in the Boulder Creek area are being planted this week. The list of streams appears near the bottom of this column. Siskiyou County Beckons Hunters, Fishers I received a letter recently from J. D. "Proc" Proctor of Etna, in Siskiyou county, who runs a sportsman's ranch there.

Proc is located in one of the finest areas in the state for trout fishing that I have visited. Siskiyou county is loaded with lakes and streams that are loaded with fish. From his JII ranch you can reach any number of lakes that abound with rainbows, browns and brook trout, cither by foot or horse. If you prefer stream fishing, there plenty of creeks running alongside the roads that have 12 to 14 inch trout in them (there are some little ones, too) that are really full of fight. For added insurance there are the Scott and Salmon rivers that boast not only fine trout but some salmon and steelhead to boot.

For the fisherman, it is a mighty good place to be. For some of you who haven't decided where to go for deer hunting, this is also a good place to keep in mind. Proc has enough country for hunting to accommodate a lot of people, and there are plenty of deer. There are some mighty fine deer taken in this country each year. There is a fine bunch of so-called local deer that are hunted on the lower country and the big bucks that spend their time in the rocky crags.

Reservations are the safe way to insure a cabin andor pack trips. Simply address a letter to Proctor's JH Ranch, Etna, California. The rates are reasonable, accommodations excellent and results should be very satisfying. Trout Plant Schedule This week the following coastal county streams and lakes are scheduled to be restocked with catchable-sized trout by the Department of Fish and Game. Anglers are reminded that this list is tentative and subject to change, depending on water and road conditions and other factors: Bear, Fall, San Vicente creeks; San Lorenzo river, Corralitos creek.

Elks And Navy Keep Pace In City Softball The Elks club and Naval Reserve continued their drive towards a possible city league softball first half championship last night when they posted wins at DeLaveaga park. Led by Bob Wilson's 3-for-4 and Mike Vomvolakis' 2-for-3, the Elks downed Santa Cruz Lumber, 11-1, while the Naval Reserve defeated Wilson's Tires, 9-7. Both teams have 5-1 records while Adolph's Club is not far behind at 4-1.

Theberge fired the Knights of Columbus Indians to a 3-0 victory but the Native Sons Red Sox were dumped in the first game 3-1 by the Yankees, and therefore did not move into a tie for first with the Tigers.

Curt Fetty threw a one-hitter at the Yanks but three runs in the fourth inning on the Yanks' only hit did the damage. Fetty had control trouble in that frame. He struck out 10 Yankees in the five innings. Dale Rector had the only home run in the game, a solo blast in the second inning to account for the Sox only run. In pitching his masterpiece Theberge struck out nine Tigers and walked three.

One man reached third in the fourth inning. That was John Duffy who moved there after being hit by a pitch. The Indians sewed up the game in the last of the fifth on a two-run triple by Paul Bag- nasco. Pete Pappas and Larry Griffen pitched the Yanks to their first win of the second half with a four-hitter. Pappas came on in the fourth inning to receive credit for the victory.

SLV Little League Chris Cunningham a 10-year-old for the Felton Cardinals scored all three runs as the Cards beat the Scotts Valley Senators 3-2 yesterday at the Little League park in San Lorenzo Valley.

The Felton nine overcame an early one-run lead by the Senators to score single runs in the first, third and seventh innings to win, the extra inning thriller. Mike Allegri and Mark Duerr pitched for the winners with Duerr coming on in the seventh to get the win. After the first inning when Scotts Valley scored their two runs on three hits, Allegri pitched one-hit ball for his remaining five innings. SC Pony League Dan Singer and Bill Fetty led the Optimist Orioles to their seventh straight victory as the birds downed the Lion Braves 16-4 in a Pony League game yesterday afternoon at Harvey West Pony League stadium. Fetty pitched the win and added to his own cause with 3for-5 and five RBI's. He also poked a solo home run in the game that saw four Orioles getting two or more hits. Singer slammed two homers over the right field fence. He was 2for-4 as were Larry Wright and Bruce Malper.

Fetty struck out 13 Braves in going the distance for the win. Score by innings: Orioles 340 126 016 Hits 130 214 011 Braves 010 120 0 4 Hits Oil 010 1 4 Bill Fetty and Mike Olivieri. The Italian outweighed Scanlon 136 pounds to 135.

Scanlon's victory gave him a 33-3-1 record. Veechiato is 43-4-6.
